It's that time of year when I check around the usual comparison sites etc. to make sure I don't get ripped off insurance -wise. 2007 MJ, fully comp, no convictions or claims, 60ish for both named drivers, £100 excess. It looks like I'll be sticking with LV as they quote a reasonable £144 online, and I get a little extra discount going direct to LV because of other policies with them :D

What worries me is the quote at the other end of the scale (Adrian Flux...) -
£2,044 premium plus £3000 excess........
Are they expecting me to drop dead at the wheel and take out a cinema queue before the car comes to a rest?

Why not go back to Adrian Flux with your LV quote and see what they come up with?

Sounds like you got some new drivers quote - and if he got yours, ain't he laughing!

don't go direct go through www.topcashback.co.uk and get £26 cash back. you still get the extra discount too

"If you have previously had a quote elsewhere such as a price comparison site then the transaction will be declined." and "Please note that in common with other insurance companies, this merchant does not pay cashback on renewal of policies or on saved quotes, unless we have indicated otherwise above" - looks like I might have already missed the boat on that one (I get a direct quote from LV as well) but I'll hang on to that web address for future use :)

You just won't be meeting their 'ideal risk' and they price you accordingly to basically say they don't want your business, nothing more, nothing less (y)

In your 60s driving a panda is really not Adrian Flux, target market as MEP they basically priced you out of taking a policy with them.

This is why you get 17yo new drivers quoted £7000-£10000 for a car worth £500

Hi,
I'm aware of this very specialised scheme that quotes with a compulsory £3000 excess however without checking your full details I wouldn't be able to tell why this one should be quoting for your risk. I would appreciate it if you could PM me your details so I could check it out.
Regards,
Dan.

I can't offhand tell you exactly what my premium is but, it's on the lines of £600 p.a. for fully comp with £500 excess for a 2005 Panda MJ, and that's including 100% loading for Class 1 Business use for driving tuition.

Without posting enough details online to encourage identity theft ;) the basic details are in my original post. 13500 miles/annum, rural Durham postcode, sdp no business use, retired so no dodgy occupations. No legal cover/courtesy car/breakdown cover.
75 quotes ranged from LV £144 in nice steady steps up to £436 (Sheilas Wheel) then jump to £1,497 (Insure It All) then (drum roll) Flux Direct at £2,055.19p
A full bells and whistles Motor Trade policy (fully comp/any car in possession or control plus three cars registered on database) for a family member is almost £300 less....

Maybe I should start giving driving lessons....:D

Hi,

As mentioned, I would need you to PM me your full name, post code and date of birth so I can trace the actual quote you have been provided with.

Kind regards
Dan
