General What should you pay for a Panda ?

Hi Gents ladies (wee smurf)
Whats a reasonable price for a 1.2 panda and also a 1.3 Diesel Panda as i have been looking for ages now but really dont know whats a reasonable price for a panda lets say a Panda that has upto 50k miles around on a 08-09 plate.

They all seem high price to me on ebay autotrader

They do seem high compared to a Punto don't they! I'm buying a 2006 panda 1.3 dynamic multijet on Sunday with 67k and fsh for £2500. Compare that to to the £975 I'm asking for my 2005 Punto jtd! Most 2009 pandas I looked at were around £3500. There is a white panda on ebay 2009 with only 3000 miles with a buy it now of £4300 which I thought was reasonable for a car that's basically new.

I've just purchased a 100hp. 2010 plate. It was fullmetalpandas old car. He part ex'd it for a new punto. I knew what it was valued at for part exchange. I paid above (obviously dealer would make money on the car) part ex value and above what parkers price guide said it was worth.

The good thing about buying from a proper dealer (fiat autoworld) was the prep of the car. They pulled out all the dents. Serviced it again as per fiat recommendation and motd the car for me. The car did not really need a service as it was last serviced in July with only 13k miles.

For me you are buying a Second hand car, not new. So always buy on condition. And for me the better condtion cars always command a higher premium. Obviously there are rubbish tired and uncared for cars out there. Owners of these cars look at the market and price their cars according to the rest of the market. So you are going to need to do your homework, travel to view cars and pay what the car is worth to you. Don'tlisten to some silly guide aas it's only a guide.

It took me 4 months to find my car but I am really fussy

you may find a bargain but be prepared to travel. It took.me 4 months to find my one.

As for the 1.3 multi jet. 2.5 -3.5 should bag you a nice one.

I bought my 100hp in October from a guy in Hatfield, 10k miles on an '08 plate for 4k. Bargain. There's some deals out there, just bide your time.

Shop, shop and shop around!

Used cars fall into three basic price bands.
Dealer price
Private price
Trade price

The differences can be quite large between the three for the same car, though private vendors tend to price up and advertise their cars on what dealers are asking, but usually move on price more readily.

Typically the dealers (franchise or not) tend to be the more expensive option as they offer warranties, finance etc, though the extra cost doesn't always add up as they need to make a profit as well.

Most think there's "come back" with a dealer, true most will help if things go wrong, but lots will leave you in the hands of cheap warranty companies and/or you threatening civil suits you just can't afford or win!

Private sales are bliss if you're used to them, if not they can be a bit of a nightmare.
Never buy unseen/untested from the likes of Ebay, always view and always haggle.

Judging owner and car together can be useful, enquiry by phone should be probing enough so you don't travel miles to view rotters!
Most of all, if it feels wrong or they ask you to do strange things (met in a pub car park at full moon) it is wrong!

A warranty can be bought online for fractions of what a dealer will ask for which will make the whole deal cheaper than Dealers.

Trade buying is usually down to auctions, unless you've done it before or can take someone with you that has, it's probably not a viable option, though the bigger auction houses are now a little more private buyer friendly.

I would recommend visiting them first a couple of times and get the feel.
You can't always "drive away" with your purchase, (tax etc) so you need to consider transport and you need to stump up the money there and then, there ain't no haggling here!

There is another way of buying at trade like prices and that's back at the dealers.
A friendly chat with one may turn up a "trade in" that they'd send to auction.
They take dozens of cars every week, not all end up on their forecourt, if you can cover their CAP (auction price) and offer them a "Drink" you could be quids in.

Again, a warranty can be bought online if required.

Pandas do seem to hold their value - but why not check out the car auctions.

There's a load of low-mile White Diesel Pandas for sale on Autotrader at the moment. I knew they would be coming because I saw them on the Mannheim auction website (you can register for free).

Never believe either mileage or service history unless verified.
There are only two ways to do that that mean anything.
Mileage, use a diagnostic tool like MES to compare the engine ecu recored milage to the dash ecu, also the number of re-writes, some cars are clocked every month, the kit to clock them is less than 20 quid. !
It is generally thought that 1 in 3 cars in the UK are clocked...
HPI and MOT trace mean nada,
It will cost you 75 quid for the kit to check,.

Now, service history, There seems to be a toal lack of understanding by many people of what this means. It does not mean stamps in a service book, but that is a start.. what it means is all the receipts and bills for all the work from new. everything. if you aint got that, dont believe it. You have a chance if the car was serviced by a main dealer as you can check with them as to the history of service. You can buy service books from ebay, many are availble to order if you know the right people.

Caveat Emptor.

When you buy a car, always allow a certain amount for proper servicing and sorting - whatever the book says it has done or the seller lies about...

First thing I did on mine was a new cambelt kit (from fiat!) and a full total service - gearbox oil, engine oil, brake fluid, clutch cable, brakes, everything.
NEVER, ever believe what the seller says without FULL documented and traceable proof.

The man speaks absolute sense, it's your money on the line, be extremely careful (and picky) with what you buy and who you buy from. There's no shortage of "normal" Pandas here in the UK, you'll be able to find a mint example with a little effort and patience

I could not agree more. It's is a minefield. When it comes to looking at a car I'm sure your much more thorough then me. However I would say I'm anal enough to annoy most people.

I was able to speak with the cars old owner on many times to pick his brains about any Isues or modifications ( gear knob some small decals and k and N panel filter )
i have all the receipts for service work with stamped book. Original sales invoice. The old mot and fresh12 month mot. And HPI clear report. Overall I think I was very well looked after by the fiat dealer but then I did pay a small premium. I work 6 days a week. Sometimes 7 so paying a little extra for convenience is worthwhile in my case.

I would always pay a premium IF it was the right car, you did the right thing.
I must confess that the dealer selling mine (not a fiat dealer) looked rather 'worried' when I asked if I could do any inspection (to which he agreed) - I then pulled out the laptop, cantiecar interface unit and MES and started probing and logging the ecu's..

- also left it plugged in for a full start from cold and 5 Km test drive to log details (just in case all existing faults had been cleared... there were a few minor things, but that only got me a rather large chunk of the price...

- the look on the guys face was worth the 200 squids I paid for MES Multiplex version. AND, I saved FAR more than that on hte price of the car... I would buy the registered version if I was you, for about 70 quid you can have the program and the interface with leads. It is good to actually know what is happening. I check mine on average once every two weeks. but, I am also meticulous. (or a sad b&stard)

I traded in my 2.5 year old Panda a few years ago. I paid £5495 for it brand new.
The dealer I traded it in to put it on their forecourt priced at..... £5495!

Go look at fiatsupasaver.com and see what new ones cost before you look at any nearly-new Fiats

They're selling brand new mk4 Pandas for just under £7k and they have a mk3 1.2 Active Eco for £5.5k.

I have no idea if they're good prices, but they're at least a reference point.

Hmm more money to spend on what was suppose to be just a cheap small runaround. You should have came with me to buy my car. I may have knocked a bit more off. But nonetheless I am over the moon with it. Took a few months and it does not have the skydome but I would stick me neck out there and say it's one of the best 100hp in the country. Worth every penny.?

Looks a very fair price but it's 94 miles from your house...........

You're closer to Hilton Garage where there's a low miles 2011 Dynamic, but it's 1500 quid more.

You should congratulate them on their idea of taking photos in the dark. Great stuff. Ask for some more (of the inside) before trekking anywhere.

Adverts are almost useless. You really need to go view the car if it ticks most of ye boxes of what your after.

And don't email. Always call first. To me it's shows more of a genuine interest.....But that's just me

If you ever ring up - and you think it is a private sale -ALWAYS say - "I am ringing about the car...."
If they say "which car" then it is not a private sale....

Also, 90 miles is nothing to go and view a car... but ask about ANY imperfections or issues first.. you cannot expect totally as new, but it should be pretty mint. again, never ever trust mileage - he says full history - do not believe it without checking with the dealer. I could get you a fully stamped history tomorrow for any car from any dealer,

I would also never buy of anyone with an IQ in single digits, so on talking to the person, if they seem thick as sh&( , leave it...
