Technical 100hp Induction mod for under £30!

I got all the parts through for this mod and fitted it in 10 minutes. May I say what an awesome idea and great instructions. Love the sound. Genius.

Glad you like it, I am currently working on a upgrade to a cone system which I think can be done for around £70-£80 stay tuned!!

Now I'm no cheapskate, but £18 for a rubber hose?
The hose is designed for radiators, there must be a generic plastic hose somewhere? I know you can use base model Panda pipe, but I'm assuming screw fix or somewhere like that would have one?

Recreated my hastily made red/alu one with black pipe work and clips, I took a bit more time over it, this time around, using a gently tightened jubilee clip as a guide for cutting really helps by the way (obvious to most I'm sure); looks tidier I reckon, just needs to get a bit muckier/dustier and perhaps it'll look OEM :yuck: :D Fitted a K&N panel filter while I was there too.

How does it sound without a pipe attached?

Is the change in sound the air sucking resonating through the pipe?

Silicone hose seems a bit overkill for an air hose, I only have a bit of alloy piping roughly pointing at an open K&N cone filter on my Elise!

How does it sound without a pipe attached?
No idea, but it'd be sucking in much warmer air with no pipe at all, as all of the air it was taking it would be hot air rising from the engine.

Silicone pipe may well be overkill, but when you can do the whole mod for under £30, who really cares :p? Also, the silicone pipe looks nice, especially either in black for the OEM look or in the same colour as your car's paintwork.

Cooperman1 thanks for the link. I have a red 100hp, red badge in engine bay so I wold like red pipes. Have u any? Also is that just an air pipe as I'm getting a pipercross air filter and I can't see an air filter on yours?

I've tried a few of these lovely cheap induction mods now, primarily because of my poor DIY skills, and curiosity. I thought I'd give an opinion on a few of the different cheapie options, I've personally tried.

The original Cooperman mod has been used loads here it seems, and it does sound good. Shame my poor DIY skills caused it to fall off. I'm blaming the short legs I got on my silicone bend. ;)

No induction pipe, found out this one when my "cooperman" fell off. It definitely sounds best. Although I felt you lost/moved(?) too much power/torque. But to be fair the sound is almost worth it. Best sound of the bunch, by a long shot!

The little rubber Fiat 1.1/1.2 (from memory) induction pipe. The easiest to fit and sounds better than the standard pipe. I got a new genuine fiat one, for a little less than £10 delivered from eBay.

The flexi-pipe method is the second easiest to fit, only cutting the wire could cause any issues, it's that simple! But unless you can buy a tiny bit, you'll end up with enough pipe for half a dozen cars.

I've tried another one now, the most recently fitted flexi-pipe was lacking in the sound department an I'd recently had a Marelli exhaust fitted. So I found ebay item number 190886048846, for about £15. It was, to my eye, a good bend and from a little reading I've done I was convinced it had a chance of sounding ok. An apart from a 10cm silicone joining hose, and a couple of clips (left over from previous goes) it was ordered an fitted. I'll try to add a couple of photos, of my new set up. But a quick Italian tune up says induction mod fitting days are over.

Some old threads are worth resurrecting. Thanks to the OP and followers.
Played with this for a 500 1.4 and started with 80/70 reduction hose on airbox end. Left over from MR2 mod of old days.
The 500 engine bay intake hole is 55mm dia..
So help please. I haven't seen how you connect at this end, or is the silicone only mated up?
Possibly the Panda has a bigger hole?
On the sound question, the 500 1.4 is different to the narrower 1.2 and has a snail shell like fitting securing the pipe. Clearly a sound baffle at the cost of free flow cool air.
