Hi

I've got a Fiat Panda 1.2 Pop which was registered in 2013.

I was wondering if it is possible to get some sort of lockable petrol cap for this car? It would feel more secure if there was sort of lockable feature here but with the cap integrated into the flap I don't know if this is workable. Has anyone managed to find anything like this for their Panda?

Thanks for any help here.

Odds are Fiat didn't bother to design separate parts for separate vehicle lines, so it's highly likely that the optional cap available for the 500 can be adapted to the Panda, but it would also require the top lip and casing from a donor car (or as a spare part) as well since the current part doesn't have the necessary hardware in it. It's also plausible that the whole assembly is sourced from a general supplier like Valeo, so if you can pinpoint which part will fit, an aftermarket cap and flange would also most likely fit right in.

I'm not sure what the advantage would be of switching to a lockable cap?
The current system seals when the filling nozzle is removed and there is an anti syphon device fitted in the neck. If you're worried about someone stealing fuel they much more likely to either puncture the bottom of the tank or cut the fuel feed lines.

Ok...... but they could also fill the tank with water and any other liquid as easy as pi..... there are some not so nice folk out there too!!!

Except, you cant push the metal plate valve open unless you have something exactly the shape and size of the petrol pump nozzle...

Not the case I'm afraid. You just need to release two simple latches to open the flap. It's not secure at all. Very poor design.
I'd happily do a YouTube clip but the world would see how easy it is with just two fingers.

I must admit I didn't think of that, but then I'm probably too nice a person. It occurs to me though that it would be such a specific form of tampering somebody would have to have thought it through before hand and bought all the relevant items along with them. A targeted crime basically.

Should we be decsusing this when the forum is open to anyone... PM would be better..just a thought.

True......... It would mean that every member would need to have a message sent to realise there is a security issue. Perhaps Fiat should be told of this in the first instance.
Somehow I doubt many criminals would be scanning the thread to find out how to get into the filler pipe which is actually syphon proof.

As Panda isn't worth much compared to some cars, vandalism and fuel theft to the value of £40, unlikely. If I had £100k of Rangerover instead.......

Exactly. I'd be more worried about the tin foil hat rusting away:rolleyes:

Sorry, I can't resist. But does tin foil actually rust?

You might be right though as my 2017 Panda already has more rust on it than the 2009 one it replaced.....
