General Bad news on throttle reponse problems

I had a few Citroen c1's with the 1.0 3cyl. Ace little motors that rev out great, and give fantastic economy. Personally, I love 3cyl motors.

My Dad used to have an Aygo- not a bad little motor, but the smaller 0.9l
Twinair certainly feels MUCH more powerful and torquey :D

I recently test-drove the new Renault Twingo 0.9TCe, expecting to be
underwhelmed (due to press reports on this version) but it turned out
perfectly acceptable, even with virtually zero running-in. And its
variable-ratio steering wasn't problematic for me.

So I've ordered one :)

Nowt wrong with my Panda, but I like the Twingo's radical design, and it
meets all my usability criteria (albeit slightly less rear-seat legroom...)

And much cheaper than half a Porsche 911

Many congrats on ordering the Twingo! Think it looks great. As a Fiat fan I hope it doesn't eat into the 500s sales too much, although what with this 1.2 engine faff going on with the 500 and Panda I don't suppose that will help:rolleyes:

I like the new Twingo too.

If they do bring out the electric version and have the charging problems (on the Zoe) solved I will take a look at it.

Interesting that Fiat haven't done an electric car (yet...) An electric 500
would surely make a great urban runabout :)

As for the Twingo, its petrol engine is the most tightly-packed installation
I've ever seen  Definitely not user-serviceable

At the front, there's a big empty space between grille and radiator- this
would be ideal for a battery pack, its weight would help the handling ;)

Chris

The 500e is only available in California I believe. It's only sold as part of some kind of Eco rules out there.
Something like unless the sell a zero emission car, then they can't sell any other ice cars .
Something like that, I don't know the exact facts??

Marchionne once said they loose something like €13000 on each one they sell.

As for the twingo, they've built the chassis in such a way it can take an electric drive train. There covered all the bases.

Sorry for the off topic :)

Ok, so back on topic.

I took my '64 1.2 (Oct 14) Panda into the local dealer yesterday. But according to them the car is working "as it should" Seems the Service Manager and the General Manager both drove it so it must be OK (joking)

Anyway, needless to say I don't agree. As far as I am concerned I would just prefer to not have to put up with the flat spot as it's a bit of a pain to say the least. To be fair, the dealer has (so far) been pretty reasonable, so I'm still hopeful that once FIAT get their act sorted and if the fix code SN101011 turns out to be correct, then this should get sorted pretty soon.

Hi FinFerNan,

Did you get the chance to travel in the car with them at the same time? If not then I think that would also be a good option.

Am also intrigued to find out about this update code as it has been floating around for a good few weeks now.

Still amazes me what the hell is wrong with these 1.2 engines. Our old 500 and Panda were both a pleasure to drive, always nice and perky up to 50-60mph. The problems described by so many new(ish) 1.2 500 and Panda owners is completely alien to my experience of the engine. But there's obviously something up.

Hi Super Uwe

No mate, I did not take them out in the car. It was a bit late and I'd had a bit of a crappy day. Did not really feel like bothering if I'm honest.

For now, I'm hopeful that given the statement made by Fiat on the BBC website, and the existence of this "Fix Code" I'm ok for the time being with waiting to see what happens next.

To the dealers credit, the Service bloke phoned me earlier to explain that their techy bloke (my words not his) was on A/L until Monday. When he's back he'll check out this code and let me know.

I have to say the dealer has been pretty decent (so far) so I am perhaps being a bit more paitent than normal ha ha.

I suspect it's a result of trying to update a decent, but fairly old engine
to meet constantly tightening emissions regulations. There's only so much
that can be done by 'tweaking' the ECU mapping, and this is now at the
expense of driveability. Ultimately, a new engine design will be required :(

Ok, most of the interest and/or activity on this topic appears to be on the 500 Forum.

However, I've just had a call from my dealer. He confirmed that Fiat are working on a fix to the ECU software (he was no more specific than that) and this was expected sometime early in 2015. He thought it likely that this would be before the end of January.

Given the evidence on here, ie that forum members cars have been fixed AND that I don't live in a hilly area, I reckon I can live with that.

But full marks to the dealer, he said he'd phone me today and he did.
