Hi all, Just thought I'd register and say hi :D

Proud owner of a '93 L Reg Panda (check my profile for pics)

Only real modification I made was the alloys which I believe where an optional extra available at the time the car was new :)

And the only real issue I have with it is a revving problem.

I changed the throttle body for another one which has made the overall throttle response feel better, and it doesnt rev itself as much anymore, but when its cold, i could take my foot of the throttle and the car will pick up speed due to it engaging the throttle by itself. Just wondering If anyone else knows of this issue and what can be done to sort it?

Cheers

Tom

What a beauty! Alloy wheels were never an optional extra BTW. Those wheels are from something else (not an Uno originally either).

Is the throttle problem a sticking throttle cable perhaps? -simple solutions are the cheapest!

its not the throttle cable because i can be sat at the lights or in the driveway and it will suddenly pick itself up to about 2,500 rpm

its certainly enough power that if i engage the clutch i can move off :)

im convinced the car just wants to be driven :D

Hi and welcome.

Are there any temp sensors on the exaust and on the throtle body/inlet somewhere?
if its an ecu driven engine then wrong temperature reading might lead to engine rev up.
maybe I'm completly wrong but sounds like the auto choke in kicking in:confused:

aloys were optional at that time. they are part of a set of sporty things like spoiler and and some plastic things. (sorry for my bad english, i am missing some words)

I think pandaki is spot on with the choke. If its not an auto choke then maybe a sticky mechanism / cable. I have had the exact same problem and its the butterfly valve sticking. The engine speed slowly picks up till eventually its warmed up enough and the valve finally pops open and the engine revs drop to normal idle.

If this sounds right, then take off the air box/cover and put a bit of oil on the choke mechanism and "work it" a bit (no dodgy dance moves now:D).

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Si

PS I have the same wheels!! They are nice looking but not too outstanding. Juuust right.

the alloys used to belong to my brother who had a 1000s and an Uno but I think the wheels came off his Uno.

Regarding the revving, the general belief was that it was a fault Throttle Body / Single Point Injector unit, I managed to get hold of another one, which once installed, made the whole thing seem to run a bit smoother and general throttle response felt better, but recently it has started to rev itself or feel like its auto choking.

Once it has warmed up it doesnt do it at all.

At the moment i'm planning to sort out the rust on the doors :)

Cheers

Any alloys in there then Kev? Still not convinced any alloys were available in the UK, but would prefer to be proved wrong with some evidence.

I think the alloys were a general option for a number of Fiat models rather than the Panda in specific. I've seen those wheels on Unos but they're rare and not a standard fitment. Someone in the Uno section linked to an options list for European Unos and the amount of optional alloys available was staggering, most of which I had never seen in the UK!

I bought a Cinq new from Sunwin Fiat Crosshills (the old place, if anyone remembers it!)in Summer 1994 and they had a white one on the forecourt with those same style of alloys fitted! I went back a few weeks later to have some warranty work done and the poor little car was in the back, having been relieved of its shiny alloys and fallen unceremoniously off the bricks it had been stood on! i was told they were the last set they had/could get and they were obviously very desireable!

BTW - sorry to intrude onto the Panda section - but as a former Panda driver (long time ago ex-GF's black H reg car), I do nosey in from time to time!

No alloys listed...so yeah it seems euroland was the place to be!!! I will bring the leaflets to the camping trip if anyone wants to see them...they make for fun reading!!
