Hi everyone, My Palio 2003 1.9 D has a new starting problem suddenly after running 1,30,000 km, everytime i crank the engine it starts for 1 to 2 seconds and then cut off automatically. If I keep pressing the accelator hard, the engine will keep on screaming but as soon i release the accelator, the engine stalls. Already checked the fuel flow, filters etc in the auth service centre but no luck. Any ideas?? Thanks

Not a million km, hundred & thirty thousand km actually. The fuel pump warning light is on if the engine starts, seems like I have to replace the pump but the fiat service people tell me that it is unavailable. This is the reason why nobody buys fiat here.

Have a look at ASKTHEMECHANIC on utube about testing the fuel pump with a multi meter. Very easy. Get it fuel pressure tested to see what the pump is producing.

Hi , even my car has the same problem , kindly share the inputs on how to resolve it

Hi gurinder , is your car starting now , what is the exact problem , kindly guide me

I had changed crank shaft sensor and checked , but the result was same , every-time i crank the engine it starts for 1 to 2 seconds and then cut off automatically. If I keep pressing the accelerator hard, the engine will keep on screaming and the engine stalls

Our Palio is a 1999 model and is OBD1.
The O.P. mentioned his car is 2003-2004, so it is 99% OBDII.
He can buy an inexpensive hand scanner and read the ECU himself
I use an Autel MS 309 handscanner to read my 2004 Alfa.
I bought this little scanner at Ebay, and it saved me a lot of money already.

100s of obdii bluetooth readers are available on ebay india for less then 1500 indian rupees

Op should surely try as peter has suggested. it may solve his problem soon and save him lot of money

I had to tow my car to the authorized agency, after two days they told me that the electronic fuel pump needs to be replaced and they don't have any in stock and there is no chance they will have it in future! Infuriated, I had to tow the car from the authorized agency to private garage of a mechanic who was working in the agency. He told me that he can get a used pump from somewhere. After another two days the car was working fine, I'm not sure whether the mechanic really replaced the pump or repaired it. When the Fiat guys tell you that they cannot do anything, I will suggest to stay away from fiat!

this is common practice now, :(

I suspect he repaired the pump,(y)

something FIAT would be inclined to avoid, they would rather install a complete new unit.. something you did not have the option of,:bang:

anyway glad the car is now fixed and running well, :)
