Unhappy Ford focus drivers door Interior lock button not unlocking.

right dad has a Ford Focus 51 plate estate (with deadlocks if that makes any difference)

mum likes to lock herself in but recently found that she "couldn't get out"..

the door lock unit works fine until you lock yourself in.....

all the other doors will unlock if you pull the handle or press the button (front passenger door will still global unlock the car rear passenger doors will unlock too) where as the drivers door wont no matter if you pull the handle or press the button.....

its as if the deadlock constantly works on the drivers door however it will unlock via the central locking remote

(christ this is hard to explain wanders off to make a video)......

Re: Ford focus drivers door Interior lock button not unlocking.

sounds like lock itself (or possible cable?) but focuses (foci) were prone to bad lock problems (worse than GP's!) especially earlier ones.

Lock as in the mechanism just behind the interior door handle or the bit that attaches to the outside?

Re: Ford focus drivers door Interior lock button not unlocking.

As said before, check cable connection between pull handle and lock mech as this sounds like the problem. You will have to remove door panel and plastic sheet to view this.

Andy can you confirm (might need to go out and have a play) how many doors dead lock. You would think all, but for instance a 2005 5door Corsa we had as a courtesy car only deadlocked the front doors!

Could the Focus only have one on the drivers door?

Just watched vid. So it's only when it's been locked the problem happens. Works fine if you get in and out without locking it internally

Re: Ford focus drivers door Interior lock button not unlocking.

Doors are locked electronically, but opened manually pulling lever which is cable activated (broken cable or linkige problem).

They're only electronic upto the point they become mechanical. Just waiting for Andy to get back about my above post. Depending upon his answer, I may know the problem.

Re: Ford focus drivers door Interior lock button not unlocking.

On the focus all doors deadlock although they shouldn't do as there is an obvious safety issue. Just wondering if the driver's door will unlock from the outside. Also, you probably already know this, but, the remote control fob can
be manipulated so that either all doors unlock simulta.....at the same time; or only the driver's door will unlock at the first click, it taking a second click to unlock the rest.

Actually, that sounds like it's got nothing to do with your problem.....goes away muttering to himself....."silly old fart.....ought to keep his big nose out of things that don't concern him.....who's got a big nose? You asking for a punch on the snotter?....Yeah? and who's going to do that then?" Fades into the distance.....

Re: Ford focus drivers door Interior lock button not unlocking.

Just a thought, does it still refuse to lock if the remote is used instead? A short term solution might be for her to lock and unlock by using the remote from the inside? If it unlocks and can be opened from the outside, but not from the inside with the remote this might mean the problem lies right behind the handle.

Why? Shouldn't use the deadlocks unless there is no-one in the car. Says in handbooks.

Just answering your previous question as to how many doors were capable of being deadlocked on the Focus and I did say there were safety issues. In fact if you try and deadlock the car while the ignition/engine are on it won't do it. On one Focus I had if you tried to start the engine while the doors were deadlocked the alarm would sound.

I was merely musing as to whether his Mum could use the remote to lock, not deadlock the doors as a short term remedy until a permanent fix could be affected. Of course it's always possible that the fault is simply that the rod/cable is being activated when pushing the handle in to lock the door but is incapable of being gripped by the mechanism to unlock. So in fact it might not be a fault of the deadlock at all.

Re: Ford focus drivers door Interior lock button not unlocking.

the door will unlock if you use the remote or stick the key in from the outside or pull the passenger door enough to unlock (via CL)

likewise it will open if you have the doors unlocked the door handle functions normally its only if the door is locked it wont open from the inside...

im thinking the problem is somewhere within the interior door handle mechanism as surely if it was a cable problem the interior lock button on the handle wouldn't work at all

Re: Ford focus drivers door Interior lock button not unlocking.

So unlocking internally with the drivers locking catch does nothing to unlock the drivers door, or central locking? Or does central locking but no drivers door.

Sounds like the rod from the lock to the door catch has bent/stretched meaning that it dosen't pull far enough.

Had this on a friends Daewoo. Remove door card. Should be two rods. One for lock, other for door open.

Get the locking one, and try doing the same as whats failing but with the rod. If all works well then just bend the rod very slightly in a place to make it slightly shorter.

Hope that all makes sence.
