Bought this punto 1.2 Sporting 16v belt broke, sorted, but now, no indicators turn on, the dashboard and clock reset every time i start the engine... checked all fuses, all ok, cleaned earth connections on engine bay... dodgy wires on right hand side headlamp, came with it... and the repeater relay i can listen to it go... i am really running out of ideas... someone is able to help??? Thanks in advance.

1988 Lancia Y10 1.1 I.E.
2003 Punto 1.2 16v Sporting.

The belt broke - bet that stung since its an interference engine
How many valves did it smash?

as for no indicators
This is usually a sign of the BSI been surged - do the highbeams work when indicators activated?

There is no indicator relay on punto's, the BSI (body power distribution box of tricks) does the timing of the indicators

Do the Hazards work?
Or is it completely dead?
an you hear the "fake relay" ticking?

as for dashboard resetting on startup - is a sign of a power drop when cranking
Causing the dashboard to insufficient voltage / current and causes it to reset (turns off and back on)
This could be a duff battery
A Tight engine causing excess current draw
a knackered starter motor causing excessive draw

Ziggy

Can you turn the crank shaft through a complete revolution without it jamming solid?

My first thought is also a worn/knackered battery, which would account for electrics playing up as you describe.

If you are sure the battery is "newish" you may want to try using someone else's battery (from a mk2 or similar car) and see if that solves the problem as then you know straight away and saves buying a new battery and finding it wasn't that.

I'm having a similar problem, bought the car 3 weeks ago, dashboard went off this morning, no lights working on the dashboard, even on start up, clock reset and indicators are not working, though the still make a clicking sound, but seems to be more rapid. Mechanic had no idea and told me to use an auto electrician, but can't seem to gwt hold of one! Any ideas please?
