Re: what mpg are you getting

Not much help, but I have the 1.3 diesel and I'm getting up to 76 mpg on journeys according to the trip computer. It appears that brim to brim, the computer is showing approximately 5mpg more per tankful than I am actually getting.

Re: what mpg are you getting

I have new 1.4 95 HP for couple of weeks now. At the moment, the computer is showing 39 mpg as I was doing a lot of short trips and town driving.

The reading was higher if I made some longer trips but the manual book says that mpg should become normal once you have driven the first 3,000 km (around 2,000 miles). So it is still too early to tell.

Re: what mpg are you getting

It will improve as miles build.......but you should be getting good mileage from the start,
How do you drive??......short shifting helps, and with these engines, you don't have to go anywhere near red lining for change ups......

Re: what mpg are you getting

thanks for all your replies, I am on 4100 miles went to the lake district and averaged 42 to the gallon, but round the doors only 31. I had a Bravo 1.9 120 multijet and averaged 42 round the doors and 58 on longer trips wondering
if I have done the right thing my Bravo was 10 years old.

Re: what mpg are you getting

You said before it's a 1.4 MJet turbo. The 1.4 is a petrol but the MJet is a diesel, which of the two do you have?

If it's diesel then the MPG is very poor, but for petrol I'd say 42 on a run is pretty good. 31 on stop-start journeys isn't great though, but my Parents Nissan Juke 1.2 petrol turbo only gets mid-30s even on a run, and as a 1.2 turbo with 115bhp, it probably has a fair bit less grunt than the Fiat 1.4 turbo petrol, which is rated as 120bhp but often has more when tested.

Re: what mpg are you getting

I had a Bravo 1.9 for 10 years, then traded it in for the Tipo, but I am very surprised at how low the return is on the Tipo given the technology these days however it is early days and hope the mpg will improve if not I may have to invest in another diesel.

I upgraded from Fiat Panda 1.2 to Tipo and for local trips, I would say I take a hit of 10 mpg down to 40mpg (from around 50mpg) but then, if I'm doing 10,000 miles a year, it works out only just 5 extra per week for fuel.

But for longer trips, you should be getting better than 42mpg, what brand of fuel are you using?

I was reading somewhere in french Fiat forum that one guy is doing 45-51mpg with his 1.4 95 HP Tipo, he was saying something about shifting early when the rev counter passes 2,000.

Also I have observed that having 6 speed, you would need to shift earlier than you would do with 5 speed gearbox. 6 speed is not exactly 'an extra' gear bolted on 5 speed box, it has never been the case with majority of cars out there, just needs to be changing up a bit early

Hi.
Mine is the 95hp. version and has covered around 1000 miles with an average consumption of 46.8 mpg.
The Tipo is fairly high geared, so I change up sooner than I did in my recent Panda 1.2 Pop. Also I coast wherever possible, instead of "hammering" the brakes. It doesn't take much longer and is far more economical. My wife and I love the Tipo. Most of the reviews are poorly carried out.

Re: what mpg are you getting

Came back home last night after a couple of 70 miles round trips and a trip to local town, the computer showing an average of 48.5mpg. Just passed 1,000 miles last night. So it is indeed improving.

Also I have found the default tyre pressue was a bit too low for 15" wheels, as the rolling resistance was too high so I increased the tyre pressure to something like 34 front, 33 rear, and the gear change is much smoother now.

Still pretty too low, as you have said that you had averaged 42 on long trip, it should be more. For fuel, I use Maxol but I doubt switching would help although I tend to avoid supermarket fuels.

Have you checked the tyre pressure? Try increasing them by a couple of PSI or so.

Something isn't right. What's your average speed? Mine is around 26-30mph average.

It's worth contacting the dealer about poor mpg and see what they can do for you.

Re: what mpg are you getting

My average speed is 25-26 I do a lot of short journeys the odd long run but not many, so I think town driving is bringing my mpg down, I did a couple of
runs today and I averaged 38 but I can`t get over the 40 mark, I will contact my dealer and see what they say. I think the 95 brake is getting better returns.
