I recently had to have the fan belts on my Doblo multijet 1.3 fitted, but there is now a groaning on the steering which the garage tell me is caused by debris from the shredded fan belt getting into the pump, and I need to have a new pump. Has anyone had this problem or any views?

Hi, and welcome,

not too sure how it's damaged,

1, is it actually hydraulic PAS ( lots of FIATS use electric)

2, a shredded belt isn't likely to actually get inside the pump itself..,

check the fluid levels ( in reservoir - if fitted),

maybe get a 2nd opinion from another garage,

Charlie - Oxford

Thank you all for replies, not sure if it is electric pump, but think it is a good idea to get a second opinion as my son also questioned how debris could get inside the sealed unit. Would still welcome any other ideas. Thank you all for fast replies to a new member.

hi mine is hydraulic power steering and its a 2013 1.6 multijet if that's any help

It's hydraulics on the doblo

I would be wondering if the reason the old belt failed so catastrophically is that the power steering pump was/is on its way out hence the grinding problem you're having and stressed the old belt to the point of failure obviously you've now changed the belt but maybe not fixed the fault
