Hi New to the site but been following as a non member. I have a 2002 Ulysse 2.0 16v jtd, engine light is on with the code p0230 primary fuel malfunction, checked replaced filter, wiring okay any one any suggestions cause of problem, location colour of fuel replay etc

Thanks Lacey

I have poor wifi.....2nd reply attempt.

The electric pump low supply pressure is regulated by a spring in the filter housing. This pressure goes to the HP pump. The HP pump has a regulator un the side. This is controlled by the ECU in response to your power demand from your foot !!
This pressure is measured by the sensor in the common rail...and sent back to the ECU which signals the HP regulator to regulate again....and so on...
I used a MaxiDiag FR704 from Beat the Garage, to clear the code until it came on again.
This was during overrun on a bank. I decided the HP regulator was sticking....I cleaned it with an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, fitted a new filter housing and fitted a 2 nd hand common rail sensor.

It worked for me. Good luck.

Now can someone help ME !!

My engine stopped. But there is no MIL light on.....I think the ECU is not getting power....my MaxiDiag gives "linking error"....I conclude it can't talk to the ECU...because the ECU is unpowered, or dead !!

After replacing the brown Bitron multifunction relay, checking fuses, earths, connections into the engine compartment , the inertia switch behind the reservoir on the LHS, I have disconnected the ECU, and measured all the voltages at the supply pins.

I get weird voltages from 1/2V ...6 1/2V....and so on up to 12V.

I am going to check my battery positive connections because there are several crimped leads at the terminal which might be corroded.

Any advice....I am stuck in France !!

Many thanks. Found valve in filter leaking so loosing pressure, clean and cleared code. Ran for 9 miles mil back on, I will check valve again and fit new filter housing if faulty, will check hp valves as well

Hi again,

To be sure there is no misunderstanding.....

I changed the complete filter housing.....because I read on various forums that they can develop faults.

I cleaned the high pressure regulator in the side of the high pressure pump. They can stick apparently, possibly because " sticky/ vegetable based " diesel has been used, or the engine has stood some time.

I changed the common rail pressure sensor because I thought it might send a false signal back to the ECU.
