Hello, have been kinda browsing this forum for a little while as a guest.
but decided to make the move and register.

Seems like a nice place to be :)

anyways currently have a 2005 1.6 petrol astra but the fuel is costing me a ton, done nearly 10k miles since February :(

Been looking at the diesel astra SRI, civic 2.2 cdti

but ive seen a 2009 bravo 2.0 165 multijet sport with 32000 miles for 7.4k with 2 years warranty

which im thinking of buying but not sure. I mainly do bypass driving to and from work with the odd jaunt on motorways to glasgow etc.

think i like about the bravo is the looks and the cruise control etc which i need to have as the astra has it cant live without it hehe. also im a part time biker so I like my speed.

so what do you think? would I like it and enjoy enough to keep it till finance is paid off? reliability etc has it changed?

sorry for the paragraph , :D

If you drive it on the motorway often then the 165 multijet is a great choice.

The only problem people will tell you about (same in all modern diesels) is the DPF (particle filter) but since you'll be driving at motorway speeds often that won't be a problem. It clogs only for people who never drive fast or long enough for it to burn the particles.

The bravo has better styling, performance and fuel economy than both of your other choices. (better reliability than the astra too)

Speed you will never match in a car compared to your bike. If economy and fun is the issue any small Fiat will give you that in bundles. You will also save a fortune in petrol. Is there any particular reason why you need a bog engined diesel? Welcome to the forum the guys on here are great and if its speed your after I bet one of them has modified a small Fiat to **** all over a diesel and still be cheaper than your Astra ;)

FYI - Re the Civic a mate had one and it was a thirsty thing - felt pretty visceral mind.

The Bravo is pretty solid and comes with a long list of equipment for the money that you pay. There are a lot of examples out there that aren't well maintained and driven hard (due to their low price point) and like any car if you do that to it then it will fall to bits.

I've had a few issues, mostly just trim related and things coming undone - typically I had a few more of these issues than previous cars but your unlikely to suffer catastrohpic engine failure or anything.

Welcome!

My wife has a new toyota yaris with the modern 3 cylinder petrol engine that's supposedly one of the most fuel efficient engines available and yet my diesel bravo is much more economical and can smoke anything under 200hp.

My brother has the top of the line diesel insignia, equivalent spec to the OPC except in diesel and his car broke down twice in 2 years with turbo failures, so I don't even want to imagine what an astra is like. (been to opel dealer with him, it's already full of new astras with crazy problems)

My bravo has been rock solid and extremely kind to my wallet in the 4.5 years I've owned it.

If you don't own a diesel Bravo and drive it everyday, you don't know how it is.
