Hello again.
The metal cone part on the offside rear bump stops on my 2008 multi has rotted away. There's enough of it left to still hold the top of the coil in place but I suspect it will need replacing for the MOT.

What I wanted to know is if there is a replacement part for it and if it's welded or just sitting in place on the swing arm?

I've taken the spring out to have a look because I heard a lot of people just sikaflexing them back in place. The trouble with this one is the place you need to mount it in has corroded away.
Thanks.

The cone you refer to is part of the sub frame.
Your cheapest option is to find someone who will weld a plate on , in situ, that the bump stop will attach to.
They will need to lift vehicle, remove spring do welding and reassemble.
Good luck

Hello and thanks for the reply. I suspected as much but hoped that one of the other models with similar setups would yield a substitute part.

I'm assuming it's an MOT fail which is odd because it's got a new MOT on it. I'm sure I'll be able to knock something up and for now I filled the void with Polyurethane Sealant Adhesive and taped the bump stop into it. It will take a while to set but should be OK for the time being.

Thanks again for the reply and enjoy your weekend.
:)

A missing bump stop is not an MOT fail, according to some that have posted here before.
Thanks for the replies guys.

If it's just the bump stop it's not a fail but because the cone has disintegrated and it's part of the spring retainer, I would think it would fail the MOT, however I'll need to check with my tester to be sure.

If not I'll just remove what's left of it and fit the rubber to the spring cup itself.

I'm thinking a 2kg steel fire extinguisher would be a good source of metal for this job.

It's amazing what the old grey matter comes up with when you've lived most of your life in a place where you're forced to make do with whatever is lying around. I was racking my brains trying to think where I'd seen something of a similar shape and size, then it came to me. A quick google to see which was the best size and hey presto!

I'm now in the process of procuring one from our local locksmith and fire extinguisher supplier. I just need to make sure it's steel as I know some are alloy but I'll post pictures one the job is done. And I'll also make sure it has some drain holes in it so it doesn't end up the same way as the original.

I find there is a real joy in making something work from something entirely different [emoji3]
