Driver's seat belt not retracting well - anyone fixed?

Hello, Driver's seat belt isn't retracting properly. There is some spring to it, just very lazy. Probably full of crud somewhere and needs cleaning/WD40. Anyone fixed this problem before?

Cold weather doesn't help, usual solution is to pull belt right out and steam clean if you can. If not, try foaming carpet cleaner to clean the belt.

Dry the belt and when it's dry, use silicon spray.

Ideally, you'd take the retraction mechanism apart, clean and regrease but it's not designed to be dismantled.

Thanks. I'll try cleaning the belt as you suggest. Is it straightforward to replace the mech if I get an ebay replacement?

If u look at the old adds spray furniture polish on the belts and mechanisms that should sort it

i 2nd the furniture polish, spray stuff not a tin of bees wax

Hi, I have a Multipla 1.9 JTD and am getting fed up slamming the driver's door on the end of the seat belt which hasn't retracted.

May try the above suggesstions - if not, anyone know if the driver and front passenger seat belts/mechanisms are interchangeable?

Assuming the passenger seat belt has had far less use/wear than the driver's side, at least in my car.

Have a look at eper if part numbers are the same then they are the same side to side.
