Hi all, owned my 04 multipla 1.9 jtd elx 115bhp for just over a year now & thought i would give my experiance so far.
i love the look & practicality of the car,
i would say these cars are fairly unreliable & that fiat parts are expensive.
a big point is this: fiat cars (certainly the multipla anyway) are poorly constructed, all metal parts rust far too easily, seriously, look in the engine area & rust levels are unacceptable & a pain when you come to replace parts-with seized nuts/bolts etc.
in 1 year i have:
replaced egr valve, maf sensor, map sensor, silicone tubing, discs/pads,
bulbs, both front springs (after both "updated" ones snapped & full
service parts using genuine fiat (v expensive).
also take off & clean brake light switch which failed as just leaving to go on holiday & cleaning airbag connector block under passenger seat after
dash warning light came on.
oil level dash reading sometimes says too full- or too low & now & again reports perfect level (which it always is).
struggled with a rounded sump nut (v poor quality).
all in all more woes than pros, if running great (rare) its good car ,
comfortable ride & good economy- i have not given up on her just yet, but i still have an engine light on that needs sorting & short on cash!.
oh yes, rear sunroof failed, but this was a quick switch re-set.
also unscrewing roof aerial to fit roofbox & that sucker snapped at the thread!.
its a great car let massively down by poor quality build/components.
for a 6 year old car to be on its 3rd set of front springs is ridiculous, clearly poor quality metal/springs/design- simply not up to the job & damn right dangerous.
the excuse i have heard such as multipla has 3 seats at front so springs
have lot of work to do or the "speedbumps" excuse just dont really cut it.
my 17 year old peugeot i use daily on original springs & goes over many
sped bumps every day....& at 17 years old has 90% less rust than the 6
year old fiat.
im not writing this to knock either fiat or the multipla... just to give an honest review of my year experiance with a multipla.
despite all the above, i love the car & for now will persist with it.
would i recommend to anyone- certainly not, just far too unreliable,
parts too expensive & dealerships useless, also that rust- there wont be any around 17 years time like my trusty pug 205 thats a galvanised body
look forward to anyone elses views or experiances with their multipla.
cheers
