Hi all, wondered if anyone can help.

Have an 04 plate 115 jtd that has a knocking noise from the rear thats steadily getting worse. Have checked the anti roll bar bushes and trailing arm bushes, but its kinda a different noise, more of a dull thud than a cracking noise.

i worked on fiat for 10 years and never saw a set go but i could swear theres too much movement in the rear subframe frontmost bushes. the only thing thats stopping me replacing them is the fact ive never seen any go! and as i dont work for fiat anymore i havent got another one to compare it to.

the noise sounds exactly like when the rear subframe bushes go on a 176 punto.

has anybody else ever come across this, ever replaced the bushes/rear subframe, or know of any mods you can get to sort this such as the strengthening cups you can get for 176 puntos?

If you search here there are a few people who have had the front bushes on the rear subframe go - and Fiat don't sell them.

There is a Vectra bush that fits if you machine off a mill or two, apaprently- will look for the thread. I've read somewhere that there is a Punto bush that fits too?

EDIT - this thread may help? https://www.fiatforum.com/multipla/239426-rear-subframe.html

Be interested if you try it to see how you get on. We'll all need to do it sooner or later.

thanks once again for your help though....... :)

I saw your post just as you'd made it Justin - was it a complete success then? If so that's excellent news.

Hi,

Yes it has cured it, took about an hour and a half to do. more details and pictures will be going on the multipla owners site when i can find time to get them uploaded.

That's brilliant Justin, thank you. That's going to save a lot of people a lot of cash when they time comes.

This has been my successful way of replacing the multipla rear subframe bushes on my 52 plate:

I purchased quantity of 2x part number 90496681 - two rear subframe bushes - for the Vauxhall Vectra from a very kind and helpful chap called Albert @ Vauxhall Car Parts (01562 731442).

My mechanic had to machine about 1.5 mm of the aluminium casing of the bushes as well as the fabric and appropriate puller.

The rebound washer that sits under each of the bushes will need spacing with a few washers just to enable a gap to stop vibration transfer.

My mechanic managed to replace both without having to fully remove the subframe.

With labour (including the machining of bushes etc.), parts (2x 90496681 bushes) and vat, both bushes were replaced by my mechanic for £90!!!

This shouldn't fail...if your subframe itself is fine, DO NOT go to FIAT and pay £500 just for parts = £980 including labour!

FIAT ARE RIPPING OFF CUSTOMERS BY NOT MAKING SEPARATE BUSHES AVAILABLE TO THE MOTOR TRADE & THE GENERAL PUBLIC...!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE FROM A VERY PLEASED OWNER...

....MY SINCERE THANKS TO FORUM USER "BRIHL" FOR MAKING US ALL AWARE OF THIS GREAT WAY OF REPAIRING!

Hi- i followed this thread, bought the bushes for £20, and they fit perfect, saved me £800-got my mechanic to fit them, superb!:)

hi sillybilly, it was a 'firstline' part number and if i recal it was fsm2026, or fsm 2028have a look on their site under bravo bushes. it even had a fiat 'stamp' on the bush.

Hi Justin
Thanks for getting back to me. I had found this and have finished the job. FSM2026 at the front and FSM2029 at the back. I have written a follow-up article which will be on the MultiplaUsers Repair site in the next few days. Will post a link here when it is available
Thanks
