I recently aquired a new-style '54 plate Multipla 1.9JTD. Very happy with the space & drive, but it leaves an oil stain wherever it is left. About 10cm diameter after an hour.
Looking underneath it's coming from a join in the engine, slightly off to the passenger side. There's also oil on the outside of a concertiner hose towards the front of the engine, but it's not dripping onto the floor from there.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so photo of the leaks attached, with red circles around the two oil sources.

Where's it coming from (engine/gearbox join?) Notice the red sealant on the engine casing joins - is this normal or an indication that the engine's been apart before?

Thanks

Miles

My 2001 JTD has has oil on that hose (which takes air from intercooler back to the engine) since nearly new - never seems to be enough to drip, and the garage don't seem to have been worried by it. Red sealant is also common on the gearbox shells, so maybe 'as built'. But oil dripping between engine and clutch housing (that's the 'bell' shaped part in your photo) is not good. Output shaft oil seal leaking, maybe? Did you mean 10 centimetres after an hour (4 inches)? That's a lot of oil to be dripping.

Hose doesn't sound that major, but the engine/clutch leak is. I assume it's a dry clutch, so shouldn't be any oil in there? So leak is from engine, into housing then onto floor? And yes, I did mean 4 inches - but then warm oil does spread!

Oil leaking from the bottom could be either engine oil leaking from the crankshaft rear oil seal or gearbox oil leaking from the input shaft oil seal. Smell it to see if it has the pungent smell of gear oil. Whichever it is, the gearbox has to come out to fix it.

I don't think there would be so much sealant extruding from the gearbox casing joints from new, also Fiat used a red or black sealant, not orange, so I suspect the gearbox has been dismantled before.

Dave.
