Punto (Mk2/2b) My Punto MK2b

Introduction

Hi everyone,
Its not the first time I've showed off a new Fiat on this forum! I used to have a poor little '99 Seicento Sporting Abarth but its was pretty toast.. So now I've got a new baby, its newer and bigger...
A MK2b '03 Punto Active Sport 1.2 8v.. I've driven it once so far and I'm already hooked.. just can't get enough of these little Italian cars!

Regards,
Rhys
Got round to doing something that I was meant to do about 4 months ago!

Finally brought some headlight restorer from Halfrauds, and got stuck in. The kit came with a compound to put onto a buffing fitting for a drill. So I put the attachment on the drill and got going.

They look tonnes better, but i think the nearside lens is a bit too far gone...

Here the result;

Aww thats a shame.. I really think it'll be a nice addition to my interior and project. I'll definitely keep an eye out on eBay for a DECENT one ;)

Thanks,

this one sold last month for under £100 brand new http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Genui...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

that said they very rarely come up, yours is probably the best colour exterior wise to match the wheel

you should "Should" be able to fit your airbag to the older steering wheel but be warned any fiddling with airbag systems even if to change the steering wheel might mean your insurance company will no longer cover you, (altering vital safety systems) any accident then not only will you find your own car not covered, but any 3rd party damage may end up coming out of your pocket

RhysSmoove The steering wheel that Andy linked, in the title to the listing in pretty sure that's a part number. Might be worth having a search

Thanks very much both you guys, thats definitely given me some food for thought! I'm just gunna keep an eye out. Also might have a check up on my insurance and how this effects it.

Rhys

No problem, When speaking to your insurance it may be worth just getting some knowledge on what they allow you to do to your car before you have to declare it as a modification, For example If you was to get given Full abarth skirts and bumpers and fitted them would you have to declare it or not.

But saying that if an insurance company doesn't want to pay out then they wont. Probably say you had one hand off the wheel as you sneezed :D

I've had an idea for what I want to do.. However... I don't know how its gunna look. I've been thinking of changing my rear bumper to the old Mk2a Abarth/HGT.

I have to admit, that I do really like my current rear bumper (the Active Sport/HGT Mk2b one), but I still have a love for the Mk2a ones. Im just wondering whether it would look good, and also whether it would be a straight swap.

Any ideas and opinions welcomed :)

Rhys

Wouldn't look bad but you'd want to make it more "mk2a" debadge boot, mk2a lights unfortunately I don't know how good front would look though...

Yours is the mk2b active sport, it's already half way to looking like a mk2b hgt fitting mk2 bumpers and continually chopping bits about is only going to make it look like it's been in an accident and cheaply repaired

Fit side skirts and colour code the mirrors and door handles and it will look like a mk2b hgt

If what you really want is an hgt save your pennies and buy one, at the moment it seems you're just modifying things for the sake of it with no real plan for the car, and you'll just end up with a mess which has cost you a fortune and will be impossible to sell/worthless

At least if you saved to buy a better car you'd A. Have a plan and a goal
B. Have something worth modifying
C. Probably have cheaper car insurance on a standard hgt over a heavily modified active sport

As I've said before, I'm not trying to make my car look like something its not. I just want to make my Punto look how I want it. I don't want to impress anyone, and to be honest, with an old Fiat Punto, no-one is going to be that interested anyway really are they?

The chances of me changing the rear bumper are quite slim anyway.. because a. it'll cost too much to buy and get it resprayed, b. it probably won't even look that great, c. I actually really like the bumper my car has on it already and d. I don't want to chop my Punto up.

The mods that I want to do most are the ones that you have mentioned; fitting side skirts, body coloured door mirrors and handles. These are my top priority (just having a little trouble finding my paint)...

I don't want to just be throwing money at a car for the sake of it, and if you think I already have then I'm sorry, but I disagree with you. I have spent not that much money on subtle changes to my car; Badgeless grill, HGT interior bits, Abarth bits. Also, me being young I've not got much else to waste my money on!

Thank you for your opinion.

Rhys
