Punto (Mk2/2b) thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =).

Introduction

thund3rdom3's mk2b low&slow

just one day after I said goodbye to my mk1, this one came to my yard; it's a 2004 mk2b powered by 1.2 8v engine packing the allmighty 60HP :D

It's still in stock, only the trunk is without lights and badges (except the "Punto" one, that will be removed soon). I only put in some music, since it came with no radio :bang: .. the HU is Pioneer DEH3300UB, enough for my needs, the front system is Hertz DSK165 and the rear is Hertz DCX 690, I finally hear the music, and with pretty good quality, considering the hardware used (entry level, no amp or woofer). The only problem is, and I learned now for the future, never rush into anything ; the speakers had to be installed THAT VERY MOMENT, and all went fine, except the positions of the tweeters ( see pics below) :bang::worship::bang::D

As for the future plans :

- coilovers are already ordered, they should come in one month time, maybe less.. that's when he goes closer to the floor :D
- Renault Laguna lip, which was intended to go on my mk1, will now be going here
- since I got new winter tires with the car, steelies will be sprayed black, and I'll start saving money to get some nice alloys & rubber till the summer
- blacked out headlights, debadged front grill, maybe some black mudflaps (just for the winter :D ), stickers..

these are just basic plans, there will be more done during the process, but for now, this is enough info, now it's time for some pics :)

...and after one year, we come to this look... :D

Loved following your mk1 progress, what happened to it if you don't mind me asking?

Car looks like a good project and the plans you have sound ideal.

I'll be following with anticipation :D

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

@ samuraiDragon, yes, the bootlid is from an mk2a model.. Sadly, found that out too late, instantly double checked the rest of the car and found only two more faults :

-the rearview mirrors weren't the same so i got both with removable cover (only had to get the left one actually)
-the front speaker covers weren't the same, also taken care off..

Some new stuff has been done lately :

- shorter radio antenna
- Laguna front lip finally mounted after being in my garage for more than a year..
- stickerbombed the rearview mirrors
- mounted Toora mudflaps with "rock-paper-shocker" sticker at the bottom
- coilovers came home yesterday, now I just have to get some free time to mount them, very excited in advance :D

I'll let the pictures speak now, some of them are not the best quality, will be better the next time :D

plans for alloys? saving money is the plan for now :D next month i may get badgeless grill, maybe black out the headlights, and then comes the yearly technics test and registration (I really don't know how it goes on in UK, i suppose you call it MOT, if it's even similar to this).. so alloys will maybe come somewhere in the summer, I want to do this properly, something in the range from 7*15 to 8*16 with stretched rubber, polished maybe..

and for the next winter get widened steelies, but as for this winter, hubcaps are going down and I'm gonna try out something different, kinda like poke in the eye :D i'll keep the thread updated (y)

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

looks good. i will say with regards to the aerial, ur better off cutting down the wire of the original aerial for the bee sting look. it fits better, and you actually get some radio reception still from it. i had one like what you fitted, and after a while it will become oxydised and look crap.... not to mention the fact the base of it is wider than it should be.

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

news.. wheelcaps removed, and mudflaps had to go,atleast temporarily 'till I figure out how to position them.. but don't worry, there's a simple reason for that ->

the car is officially L O W :D

front more than back, even though it's lowered to the bottom at the back; TA Technix coilovers did the magic, with great help from my friend.. i'll repaint the steelies since they're now fugly, rusty and all, should be done this week (y)

some pics, have to get better ones, these don't show the level of LOW this car is now :D

@samurai - the aerial was given to me by my friend, who paid it few €, it's just a temporary replacement for the long one, because the difference between my car's base and antenna's bottom is nerving me aswell.. but as for the reception, as far as I've noticed there's no difference..

Yer that is defnatly look now m8. coilovers are also on m list to. lol.

The steelies will deinatly look better painted but get some alloys.

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

tnx m8, alloys will take some time.. my wish are BBS RM or RS, and that means ALOT of cash :( also saw a set of Fagix 557's recently that are :eek: , and also a set of porsche's teledials.. first I have to get some serious cash, the the alloys can come to play :D this way if I'm thinking too much I get sad :( :D:D

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

looks so euro lol, looks great tho. you should think about taking the bump strips off it only takes an hour or so and improves the smooth look alot

haha thats fair play m8 im sure you will decide on a set as you get more funds. The best advice i can give is have a look around forums to see what other people have done.

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

@butcher - one day, but not just removing them, filling their holes and repainting both bumpers, along with the door strips..

@ashjj - always good to have someone to inspire you..

but as samurai said, gotta maintain your individuality along the way..

as for the wheels, my good friend found a set of these in Italy, the whole set for 400€

the only thing i'm missing is 400€ :bang::bang::bang:

and as for me, here's one spy pic of an unfinished business, they won't stay white, and if you look closely.. who knows what you could see.. ;):D

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

I've never been any good at eye spy games, do i detect a pink theme creeping in! dust caos n mud flaps! No offence but i think I saw a picture of you in one of your previous threads and you dont look like you'd be into pink!:D car very shiney though...

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

how did u paint the rims? trust me, u need to clean em very often to keep them looking white, and if they aint painted in 2k or powder coated, the paint will start to stain quite quickly. im lucky in the sense ive gone subltly rat so the odd chip/stain dont ruin the look too much. if your after a clean look, be prepaired to paint em often or powder coat. looking good tho.

Re: thund3rdom3's Snowman mk2b =)

@eamonnf - you mean this pic? :D

yeah, not looking much as the guy for pink, and i'm not in general, but looks can be deceiving.. :D and yeah, the mudflaps are back, little higher than before, don't want them to scrape all the time :)

about the cleaniness, it isn't for long, autumn is here, so are the rains and the dirt, also the car is white so all the dirt is easily visible, but i still wash it regularly,as i did with my last car..

@samurai - these are not painted, they're sprayed.. the color needs to stay for this winter, i believe i will then get them widened and properly painted for the next winter :) and once again, they're not staying white (maybe i'll respray them today,or for the weekend), actuallly only the rear are now white, front ones are finished..

@colinf1 yes i did, actually we did, my friend helped a lot (see pg1), i'll measure it on level ground to see the actual distance from the floor on front, back and sides :)
