Introduction
Here it is just after I collected it from the dealers (it's much dirtier now!):
Do they have a punto evo essesse?
Very nice man and I like the colour too, nice and different! whats the stock bhp on it?
One chap yesterday had an the old Grande Punto Abarth with one of his boxes and it was running at 235 BHP!
Take it you saw flying pigs as well?
Take it you saw flying pigs as well?
Standard AGP with the SS kit (180 BHP) + the TMC Tuning box. We suspect the reason is that when he bought the car, the dealer, for one reason or another did not fit the SS Garrett Turbo. They may have even lost or sold it. In a panic, we suspect they bought a new Turbo from Garrett directly, maybe a slightly better one who knows.
Either way, the dyno was very accurate as an Audi TT diesel went on and it read 177 BHP (quoted at 170)
Really? This makes it accurate.
Sureeeeeeee
Most cars have a higher reading than the manufactures figures. I think they test them when the cars are brand new, and of course, if a car was less powerful than what they quoted, they could be sued! I guess that's why they always underestimate the figures.
Many other things affect it too of course, air temp, fuel etc etc. The reading the Audi got was only less than 5% more anyway.
That's factually wrong. When an engine is homologated it's done in a dyno test cell with every single enviormental element controlled, on a well used engine that is often tweaked to ensure it's at it's total optimum.
Car manufacturers are allowed to sell cars to within 10% under the homologated figure. There is no upper limit.
Most n/a engines produce slightly less than quoted, BMW & Audi(VAG) exploit this to the max with the M & RS cars always making under the homologated figure. My own Renaultsport Clio will unlikely make more than 170bhp when it's quoted at 179.5bhp (182 PS hence name).
Conversely many turbo applications can make slightly over as the car is toque rated by the ecu. For example the Renaultsport Megane 250 generally make 265bhp but a Ford RS makes about 275bhp meaning that on paper they are 50bhp apart but in reality only about 10-15. The torque figures are pretty much on the button.
This is reflected by Jon's 500 Abartb which made about 150bhp & 160 lb ft sone 15bhp more than quoted but torque was only 5 over.
Apologies for going off topic but glad you're enjoying the car.
it helps it blend in with the crowd a bit
the crowd that turn up at shows with their kit fitted n primed but not painted?
