Here it is just after I collected it from the dealers (it's much dirtier now!):

Re: My Grey Abarth Punto Evo

Not bothered about depreciation on the APE tbh cause I've gone for PCP on the finance side so if I still want it in 4 years I can buy it for £5k.

I do feel like it needs the stripes though. Maybe a carbon wrapped roof and door mirrors could look cool?

Re: My Grey Abarth Punto Evo

Do you know the TMC Motosport chap? I had a spin in his "1 day old" Punto EVO yesterday, with one of his boxes fitted. Drives well, pulls so much better than the standard car.

If you haven't already got one, you really need too! Unfortunately he can't put the EVO on the rollers due to ABS/Traction control issues but i'd expect at least a figure of around 180 - 185 BHP, which is nice until the SS kit is released!

One chap yesterday had an the old Grande Punto Abarth with one of his boxes and it was running at 235 BHP!

Re: My Grey Abarth Punto Evo

Standard AGP with the SS kit (180 BHP) + the TMC Tuning box. We suspect the reason is that when he bought the car, the dealer, for one reason or another did not fit the SS Garrett Turbo. They may have even lost or sold it. In a panic, we suspect they bought a new Turbo from Garrett directly, maybe a slightly better one who knows.

Either way, the dyno was very accurate as an Audi TT diesel went on and it read 177 BHP (quoted at 170)

Really? This makes it accurate.

Most cars have a higher reading than the manufactures figures. I think they test them when the cars are brand new, and of course, if a car was less powerful than what they quoted, they could be sued! I guess that's why they always underestimate the figures.

Many other things affect it too of course, air temp, fuel etc etc. The reading the Audi got was only less than 5% more anyway.

Re: My Grey Abarth Punto Evo

Sureeeeeeee

He is actually right, there were 4 Punto SS there tested, two made 215bhp , one made 220bhp and one made 235bhp, we thought too that the figure seemed crazy so we did two more runs, one in third and one in fourth, it hit almost identical figures both times so it is correct. All other cars tested gave accurate figures with A500's making from 165-175 and the Audi TT 2.0 TDi 170 making 177 which is about normal for VAG engines.

The dyno was correctly set up with ambient temps and air pressure etc.

That's factually wrong. When an engine is homologated it's done in a dyno test cell with every single enviormental element controlled, on a well used engine that is often tweaked to ensure it's at it's total optimum.

Car manufacturers are allowed to sell cars to within 10% under the homologated figure. There is no upper limit.

Most n/a engines produce slightly less than quoted, BMW & Audi(VAG) exploit this to the max with the M & RS cars always making under the homologated figure. My own Renaultsport Clio will unlikely make more than 170bhp when it's quoted at 179.5bhp (182 PS hence name).

Conversely many turbo applications can make slightly over as the car is toque rated by the ecu. For example the Renaultsport Megane 250 generally make 265bhp but a Ford RS makes about 275bhp meaning that on paper they are 50bhp apart but in reality only about 10-15. The torque figures are pretty much on the button.

This is reflected by Jon's 500 Abartb which made about 150bhp & 160 lb ft sone 15bhp more than quoted but torque was only 5 over.

Apologies for going off topic but glad you're enjoying the car.

The Abarth 500s generally make 144/145 standard any that i've ever tested on dyno, VAG cars also tend to be 10-20 bhp higher than stated (turbo charged).

Re: My Grey Abarth Punto Evo

Awesome car!

As for the paint, we're talking about an Abarth! Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Abarth use to paint there 695 Esse Esse race versions in grey primer only to keep the weight as low as possible..

So, if I'm correct (and in my opionion!) it's the best colour you can get on your Abarth ;)
