New to Fiat and trying to ascertain what defines a genuine Fiat part. Soon to acquire a new 500 and want to add a few things. I am finding it hard to tell what is genuine Fiat and what is compatible.

If for example I was looking to fit factory reverse sensors. (Yes I know I can get cheap ebay alternatives.) Assuming I was to try and fit exact same gear as the factory, so I can get it to integrate with the new instrument cluster.

I see reverse kits all claiming to be genuine:

1) "Fiat LineAccessori"

2) Mopar - "Authentic Fiat 500 accessories"

3) Fiat - Ricambi Orginali

Can someone explain the difference. Thanks.

Oh and please consider this post as generic and not model specific . Fiat 500 is simply my example. The part nomenclature should be generic I guess.

I might be wrong but as far as I am aware a "genuine" Fiat accessory is one that is supplied by the Fiat Dealership or fitted at the factory. It should have a Fiat part number and be wrapped in a Fiat packaging. Of course, Fiat, like most other manufacturers have outsourced some parts, like Bendix brakes or Lucas (Magnetti Marelli) electrics, so you also need to look for items that are described as OE (original equipment).
Ricambio is another misleading term. It actually means "spare parts" but some firms have taken it as a trading name.
Don't know if that helps or not:confused:

Yes in the US "Mopar is a registered trademark of Chrysler Group LLC. FIAT is a registered trademark of Fiat Group Marketing & Corporate Communication S.p.A., used under license by Chrysler Group LLC" ... and their Australian accessory brochure all looks authentic.

But the difference is they are "Authentic Accessories" and not original FIAT replacement parts. So they could differ from original factory kit. I guess that means 1) and 2) are much the same thing.

So 3) Fiat - Ricambi Orginali it is.

Thanks for the replies.

Ricambi originali = original parts (in Italian).
