What's made you not grumpy but not smile either today?

Oddly enough my best man had one of these for 2 years, and I don't think he ever compared it to an ocean liner or called it boring, his main comments involved drifting. It lead to him buying a superbike as he couldn't get a fast car to replace it. The proper uk VXR versions had uprated steering and brakes over the Holden/Pontiac versions. But as I've had to explain that it's boring by default.

Having driven one back in the day, I beg to differ.

Great for some rear wheel drive fun but not a lot else and due to its roots there was acres of plastic comparable to astras of the same period.

My mate used to have an Audi A8 W12

traded it in for an RS5 ;)

When it was working that A8 was a monster of a thing.

The speed obsessed are buying the RS6, you can get an RS6 Avant with a touch under 600bhp standard. Then with no other modifications than a remap have a +750bhp car. Very stable platform and superbly balanced. All for less than £25k

I won't pretend on a UK context it was anything other than a pet elephant, heavy, noisy (with some breathing mods a bit quiet otherwise), greedy and ridiculous. But while the interior wasn't great it is definitely not the 1st thing or even the 10th thing that was memorable about it if you'd experienced it at full bore.

Incidentally the Passat weighs the same as the monaro.

I've driven many V8s over the years and the Monaro wasn't what you would call memorable even at full chatter.

This is turning into one of those twisting discussions where you don't address what has been said before and simply add new routes of discussion to move away from addressing something else that had previously been said.

The discussion was "interesting cars" the Monaro was interesting in the context of something Vauxhall did in the past but wasn't really new or particularly exciting, neither are any of their VXR cars, they are all standard cars with some extra BHP squeezed in.

The W8/12/16 line of engines was a genuinely new technology and has lead to the most powerful production road car in the world. So their are quite humble beginnings in that Passat.

I'm not sure why you are obsessed with weight, weight in a road car does not automatically relate to poor handling, there are some very heavy cars that handle very well and some little light cars that handle very badly.
A lot of the big Audis with big engines and 4wd handle very well. Many heavy front engined rwd cars don't handle well with all that weight over the front and no weight on the back.

Seems like any mention of a VW results is an automatic need to put it down, which really is not going to work if the best you can come up with is some boring old Vauxhall's. there are dozens of cars you could have put forward, but no Vauxhall built in the last 15-20 years is innovative or interesting in anyway, even the Monaro which follows the same format as cars made in the 1960s - 1970s it's just a more modern day pony car wrapped up in a really boring looking body.

Sorry should I have stayed on the topic of imaginary pub discussions? The questions would indeed flow from the other side..do you think United are going to be promoted this year? Who do you think we're going to be targeting this transfer window? Do you think you're fooling anyone with that bugatti keyring on your vw key? Actually Does that mean you aren't drinking tonight, can I have a lift?

Given the conversation started with mention of a VW product in a positive way..i know it was a long time ago perhaps I don't feel the need to knock everything they do.

I don't get why you get so uptight when it's compared to a Vauxhall..its not a great car, it's an interesting footnote to a great car. In the same way people don't look at an old petrol transit and say there it is...the genesis of the ford sierra Rs500..no really that engine block..

And weight...weight matters especially on relatively small tyres and brakes. Distribution of weight determines the handling balance. You can disguise weight with huge wheels, tyres and brakes but the Passat didn't have those.

I'm sure we can agree to disagree and move on.

I think we should, what could have been an interesting discussion about interesting cars (plenty of interesting cars about not just the Passat W8), turned into a boring comparison to boring cars, fuelled by anti VW sentiment.

It's largely why this form is getting quieter and quieter by the day.

There is a whole other discussion to be had there, regards face book and Google and all the other places people now turn for car information.

A discussion with no swearing or personal attacks is not bad thing in my opinion. People can weigh in if they want or not it only becomes toxic if it gets personal. It might not go the way you want it to but you'll log in to participate. I'm on other forums where 99% will log on post one issue get an answer and leave. Absolutely no social aspect at all for the most part and that's a sad thing. But it most definitely isn't just the fiat forum that's heading that way.

The forum is quieter because it's summer and people are hopefully outside doing stuff instead of sat in front of their computers looking for something to discuss or argue about.

On that note I'm off to feed some sheep. :)

P.S Four legged and furry sheep not Daily Mail reading Tory voter sheep.

On that note I'm off to feed some sheep. :)

Knowing almost nothing about farming and livestock, I'm puzzled as to why sheep need feeding in the height of summer. Do they not eat grass? Is it not plentiful right now?
What have I missed?
Should I have a sheep instead of a cat?

Reminded me.
A few years ago, picked up a learner at a local boarding school. he lived in London, had done some lessons there, now continuing whilst back at school.
Travelling towards Swindon, country road, he did a double-take at a flock of sheep in a field. He'd never actually seen real sheep before, at 17 years old.
A couple of miles on, another flock, but quite different faces. He remarked that they looked so different. "They're 'Polyesters'" was my immediate reply. No hesitation, it just popped into my head.
The following week, he demanded an apology, as having related his experiences back at school, all his mates had now nicknamed him 'Polly'.

Still makes me smile. I wonder if he's got over it?

These are pets rather than livestock and have been going through twelve buckets of water these last few days. Drinking, evaporating and birds bathing/pooing in there.

They have a oats and stuff as well as hay all year round because they only have about a hectare of paddock. :)

Rare breed?

Unlike the type mentioned in your PS to other post.

Friends of mine have a few castlemilk sheep , very cute look bit like little fat deer. 4 lambs born 3weeks ago.

I understand the aesthetic appeal...

...the 156 even looks good in matte black...

...I prefer form and function. ;)

Already looking for a GTA 147 or 156 SW next. :D
Just looking at those pictures I can hear 'scuff' noises. We've a monster traffic calming measure just up the road - it's a car killer. One of those horrible trapezoidal efforts - not a curve to be seen.

I have no idea. Characterful chaps, fluffy with horns. A few pygmy goats and an Alpaca that reminds me of Ruud Gullit.

Safety car
? ????????

I can never see the virtual safety car so was good to have the real one.

Gaffer taping the cars back together in the pit lane.

Drivers stopping to get out and stretch legs.

Stretching their legs and losing their rag with one another - if I had fat wheels on my Panda like Vettel has on his Ferrari I could use them as a cheeky rebuke too [emoji36] ?
