I thought the MK2 8v was quite nippy but the newer GP one was awful. Now a good debate would be how come they can make modern small engines super fast but standard spec 8v are now slower than their predecessors. I.e Corsa D and Grande Punto.
I got given a GP as a courtesy car. It can't have been made that slowly for safety reasons. It has to be a danger to other road users.

Never really had an issue with my 1.2 GP except for overtaking just needed to know how to drive it and thrash the nuts off it......

Consider losing weight in order to gain that 'vital edge'. Eating nothing but dust should do it, alternatives include drinking Mexican tap water. At 115KG's, your legs probably weigh a good third of that, you could consider having them amputated and having wheel-based controls for the Clutch, brake and gas pedal.
Finally - Always make sure you've been the toilet before 'comparing' and if you can, put the back seats down (Lower centre of gravity)

Good luck (y)

I have owned Corsa B 1993 1.4 Swing for the last 21 years. The car is pretty economical, and very reliable. In the last 21 years, these are all the repairs, in addition to regular service items.
3 times timing belts replaced
2 times fan belts replaced
1 time radiator cap replaced
2 times back exhaust replaced
1 time calipers replaced
1 time plug cables and coil cable replaced
1 time hand brake wire replaced
1 time rotor replaced
1 time thermostat replaced
1 time lamdasonde replaced
1 time heating element in one front seat replaced

Notice that nothing needed to be done about the rust, shocks, suspension, wheel bearings, radiator, dynamo, steering, other electrical stuff etc.

There is some rust underneath the doors, but not on chassis, and the parts checked at EU Control/MOT

I am very interested in knowing from others if your car (regardless of manufacturer) has given you less, or more problems than Corsa b in similar time period?

Okay Nice thread restore here from a year ago

Anyway - welcome to the forum

But i dont see how your post helps? the thread was power to weights of the 2 cars and how driver skill does sometimes help

Plus this is a Fiat forum - not how vauxhalls workout in a life time, too many variables!

I've never raced anyone knowing that it's going to be a drag race. If the other person is aware that its a race, I loose 90% of the time. My 1.4 8v is actually faster than quite a few of my friends car, plus I never have anything in it for extra weight and I don't weigh much myself.
However when I pull up at lights and another car pulls up in the outside lane for no obvious reason, depending on my mood I might pull away a little aggressively (within the speed limit of course and only if there isn't any traffic). You'd be surprised at the amount of BMW 325's I've surprised. Generally manage to hold them off up to about 50/55mph before I run out of gears.

I usually get people in those not quite 4x4's (RAV4's etc) pull up next to me in the outside lane, if there aren't many people about I enjoy a little drag race ;) my cento's speed off the line is fantastic

A similar fate tends to await carfuls of chavs in saxos and corsas.... :D

The hilarious thing is I get them 'testing' me when I'm out in the Coupe. It's just embarrasing (for them at least)

I assume you weren't in a 1.4 GP against a 325? I'm sorry but even to 30 they'd leave you standing if they were trying assuming it's a 325 with the Straight 6 engine.
I'm not saying I'm faster than them, it only works if the other person is unaware of how fast I'm going to pull away. They pull up in the 'outside' lane at the lights, both lanes go straight on, assuming the small Fiat is going to pull away slowly. As soon as the lights change I'm off as fast as I can, before they've realised I'm doing such a thing they're normally in too high a gear to just breeze past me. What I get to about 50 I'm in 5th though so they then just breeze past. It works 90% of the time.

ill beat anything at the traffic light grand prix did an enzo once........its amazing how fast my 77hp 4 doored punto complete with roofbox can take off must be because it has 8vs and i weigh about 60kg im built like a jockey, or maybe because the other guy doesnt know im racing and i go on amber :p
