help with choosing a TV

help with choosing a TV

I recently got a 32" 1080 Toshiba (not LED backlit) for my (rather deaf) mum from one of the discount sheds. The sound and picture really are very good though she's not that fussed about it as her hearing is pretty crummy these days.

finally got sorted.

my mam got me that hitachi from argos for £299

full HD 1080p, usb port etc, it's 42" but is in a nice and small frame fitting nicely where i wanted it too.

very impressed, sound and picture are spot on has everything i want on it even the menu is nice and easy/attractive to use.

if people bought it when it was £449 then they would be a bit disapointed, but for £299 its not so bad 2 inches bigger than supermarket ones of the same price. aparently it wont play movies via usb like the supermarket ones did but ive not tested that,

you cant turn the back light off but i have no clue what that is any way, cant find it on my old tv

that's what i was like, top brands only, it was my mam who bought me it.. can't complain :D

like i say though i'm chuffed with it and it does what i want, knowing how good it is i'd never have paid twice as much for maybe a very very slightly better picture, just got my own flat so the money is best off elsewhere.

It's more for longevity.

Thing is they tend to make a bunch, use all the parts then stop and make a new model. So you'll really suffer finding spares, even remote controls.

I meant to say I'd never buy ANOTHER budget TV lol.

you got the same one Dave?

to be honest though, my £600 samsung lasted 3 year, this one only has to last 18month to earn the same value, it might even have a longer warranty than that.

the samsung was no better sound wise or picture wise than this one, they all use the same parts anyway i'd imagine

this is first brand new tv we have bought in about 20 years, last one was a thompson and that is still going strong, mrs dave deals in used tv's and the top brands are always the ones she has to chuck away
Is there a market for used TV's as the new prices have fallen so much in real terms?
I guess there must be if Mrs Dave makes a living at it!
Ask her if she's interested in a 32" flat screen CRT Toshiba? On-off swith wobbly, but great picture! Built like a small house. Weighs 52Kg's !

she just sent 20 to another store because they ran out.

phone your charity shops, they will come and collect it if its sellable. tell them about the switch though as it may be unsellable.
even as scrap some one comes and pays a couple of quid for them though

I had a 37 one, ffs it was the heaviest thing I've ever lifted.

Gave it away for free to some pooroldcodger ;) who thought he could manage it himself.

I was still recovering from my broken jaw and had to lug this down a flight of stairs and down a street to his car, weak old b*stard, felt like letting his tyres down, my face killed for at least the next 3 days.

Good idea - plenty of charity shops around.
The switch is just a cosmetic thing which I might even be able to fix myself if I can lift the casing off!
