Ok Guys, Just joined the forum as a friend of mine is having problems with his aftermarket head unit. The situation is as follows...

Installed Pioneer navigation/multimedia head unit, the unit is up and running but when he goes to use the satnav it states that there is no speed pulse signal and so the unit will operate in hybrid mode. So, he purchased an interface lead which is a connects2 model which he was told was the model he needed. The first problem is that when the lead is connected the unit will not power on. This was solved temporarily by taking a feed from elsewhere. So his current problem is that there is no speed pulse supply. All the bullet connectors are plugged in in accorance with the supplied diagram but it is still reporting no speed pulse. There are three iso connectors comming from the car and all three are plugged into the supplied iso harness. Any ideas and help would be appreciated?

There should have been a diagram with the new head unit showing which wire is expecting the speed pulse. Check the wire from the car to see if the manufacturer has provided a speed pulse to the original head unit.
If the car has CanBus, it will need an interface unit that reads the CanBus signals and produces a speed pulse from it.

If you want further help, we'll need more details.
Car Model and year
CanBus or not.
Radio model number
Connects2 interface part number.

Followed all leaflets that were provided with both the head unit and the connects2 interface unit. Everything was connected up as per instructions, supposed to be plug and play. The original head unit was the blaupunkt and I don't think there was a requirement for a speed pulse input but now the new unit Pioneer AVIC-F960DAB is fully satnav then it is needed to give a more acturate guidance etc. The car is a fiat panda on an 07 plate, No idea if its canbus or not but there are 3 plugs behind the dash which fit into the connects2 interface. The connects2 interface is model CTSFA006.2

I had the head unit in my car with a connects2 specific to my car and there was no problems all plug and play but that was a vauxhall and not fiat

Still no further forward after speaking with the oulet that supplied it?

The information on the Connects2 website suggests that this interface will supply a speed signal.
You'll need to check that the wire it is supplying the speed pulse on, is connected to the input connector to the head unit, by checking the wiring diagram for that.
The 07 Panda will be CanBus. The power plug from the car will have a permanent 12v and an earth, and two tiny wires. Check these connect to the CanBus input wires in the Connects2 socket. The CanBus gives ignition on signal, plus lights on and reverse, as well as speed. Check these work in the head unit, as that would confirm that the CanBus was correctly connected to the Connects2 unit.

Thanks for your response but it still doesn't help as I've explained that the head unit was fitted to my car prior to attempting to fit in the panda and in my car I connected up the wiring as per the supplied instructions which worked without a problem. But fitting it in the panda without the connects2 gives a working head unit albeit without speed pulse etc. Using the supplied wiring diagram it was connected and all wires were connected but the unit wouldn't power up, no wires missed and connected exactly as per instructions. Power was restored using a direct 12v but there is still no speed pulse. I've been in touch with the company who supplied the harness and they say that it's possible that there is another harness available for the panda but it won't supply a speed pulse? At a total loss here as I don't want to start playing around with wires when it should be plug and play

Anyone? there must be someone out there that has come across the same problem or is it that it can't be done?
