Anyone still alive on here?

I've got the OAP spec 75BHP Multijet, which was actually pretty nippy till I put some fat wheels on her and now she barely moves. I know that this is one of the couple of models that are only recommended for 15s by Fiat, can anyone advise on whether it's important to stick to that? Wondering if my current 17" wheels are just too deep for the car (7.5J up from 6J stock, tons of poke), or if I should stick to Fiat's spec of 15s. (I know it needs lows, just can't do it till I've dropped a J or I'll be needing new arches every 5 minutes)

You can't get the butter and keep the money...

the poor mjt 75 does have a hard time to make the car move on its FAT wheels so what you may gain in look will be lost in efficiency and driving experience. What size are the tyres ? FYI, my GP 1.3mjt90 has 195/55/16 on alloy and 185/65/15 on steel for winter; it came like this from the factory.

Changing the diameter (we need tyre as well as wheel size) affects the overall gearing 9nd speedo. as well as the added width increasing the rollling resistance. Overall not a good idea. How old are you? have you told your insurance company?

Hi Robert, I agree, size matters !!

But one still can play with the tyre ratio to get the same distance per rotation. My winter and summer wheels are different in diameter, tyre width and ratio but have the same development (but a few mm).
The rim width is also important: from 6 to 7.5J the wheel itself is about 38mm wider so it could potentially rub against the shock absorber in certain conditions of load...

Absolutely! I'm running 205/45/17 tyres on them, it evens out so the speedo is only about 1% out.

The wheels were a poor choice on my part, didn't pay enough attention to how wide they were compared to stock. Definitely changing back down 6-6.5J, just unsure whether to go 15 16 or 17. As for how it's currently running on 7.5J, it's all been checked over for clearance and rubbing, just struggles with the whole going forward thing.
