Hi All,

I've scanned these forums a few times just to see if any problems I've been having with my Grande Punto has happened to others.

The biggest problem for me is one I have with my car over revving despite been in gear. I think this may be a clutch problem, most likely slipping. Majority of time it will happen when going up hills, doesn't matter what gear I'm in it will do it. Also have problems with it when trying to build up speed on motorways. My revs will fly up and don't drop back down until I take my foot off the throttle. Despite high revs the car is losing power, almost as if it is in neutral despite been in gear.

I can generally drive around 15 mile before encountering this problem. Sometimes it won't happen for a week or so then will do it for days on end. Weight also seems to play a part, if I have a passenger it seems to increase the chances.

After this happens my 'bite' point is basically none existent. It isn't until the clutch pedal is almost fully released that it begins to bite. Whereas without it happening it's around half way for the bite point.

Any ideas as to what could be the problem? If I do need a replacement clutch, what should I be expecting to pay for the clutch and it fitting?

Also, just a quick one. I also have started to smell petrol when sat in traffic. This is my breather pipes that have corroded I've been informed. What should I be paying for this part and it fitting also?

Any replies are much appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like your clutch is gone.

What engine?

1.2 engine size.

Put it through MOT last week which it passed with no work needed, just always seems to be little problems with it though. Since buying it last August I have replaced the battery and had the engine serviced (combined cost of £180). That was mainly due to it starting poor in cold conditions, once started it turned over fine but it's getting the initial start. Still have the same problem. Then I had a full brand new exhaust fitted around March time which cost me £135.

Regret of mine buying this car if I'm honest.

Sounds like clutch Ok, Any oil leaks? Make sure there aren't any oil leaks around the clutch as well to prevent a new one getting contaminated with oil. Buy a decent clutch, there is a nice bit of work putting one in so worth making sure it's a good kit. Original is probably Valeo or Borg & Beck. Cost of kit here is about €85 (LUK) so judge from that. Fitting... I don't know labour rates in UK.

Don't believe there's any oil leaks. Certainly no marks on the road when it's parked from it leaking.

Anyone from the UK able to give rough estimates of what I should be paying?
