1.9 grande punto sporting starting issues, half of the time it starts half of the time it doesn't, it just tries and tries until it cuts out, to me it doesn't sound like it's turning over quick enough, crank shaft sensor? Something else? Nothing comes up on the snap on diagnostics at work and I'm honestly stuck and so is everyone else at work, any help, past experience with the same thing, anything is appreciated.

Could be crank shaft sensor. On a old car I had this issue an turned out to be egr valve was stuck open. So worth a check.

Is the battery alright? You checked the earth wires? Bad earths can cause this issue as well

It's definitely not the battery mate all checked over, I've checked everything obvious when there's time spare in the garage, honestly gave up trying to diagnose it ?

Take it your a mechanic?. Like said bad earth are common on gp an can cause this. Under guide section you'll find the earth points under the engine bay. You checked to starter motor?

You tried proper fiat diagnostics I.e multiecu scan?

Is the fuel filter getting air in or the leak off pipes loose. Could be slit in a pipe that is letting air into the car which causing it to cut out.

Check the map sensor as this can cause start up issues. Clean the egr valve as could be stuck open so won't start (had that issue before now)

I have the same issue, but mine does start eventually (with a very red faced driver) and a plume of white smoke to boot. I have been told it could be the dual mass flywheel causing the problems but i am in no rush to change that until i know for sure...

Haven't tried a multiecu scan no, gave it a full service including all filters as I thought could be something as little as a clogged fuel filter, no better since the service, map sensor seems fine an I'm gonna try the egr valve, guessing it's never been cleaned before and also might try a more powerful battery, that's what my garages tester is recommending, give anything a go it might work.

disconnect the temp sensor on the thermostathousing just before starting and connect it again when the engine springs to life
