Hi, I bought myself my first car a few days ago Fiat Grande Punto Dynamic 1.2 2006. It has a few issues, but the first issue I would like to address is the Air conditioning. When I turn it on it doesn't blow any cold air, it blows normal air but its not cold, the button light switches on when I turn it on, I opened the bonnet and I can't really hear anything switch on when the Air con button is turned on and wise versa. HELP please! Thank you!

Yeah I had the same with an 06 I bought the girlfriend.

AC is the kind of thing you need to use at least once every two weeks for 30 mins to keep it charged as the gas when not used can deteriorate.

£30/40 will sort it for a recharge

+1 to the above. Most likely it is out of gas. they have a low pressure switch that cuts the power to the aircon pump (even when you turn the switch on) to prevent it damaging itself. Most systems, (used regularly as Scott suggests) will hold their gas for about 5 years or so - often more. If the system has a significant leak somewhere, however, you'd be wasting your time trying to get it re-gassed. there are strict regulations that are supposed to prevent discharge of the refrigerant to the atmosphere and big fines from DEFRA for breaches of it, so a proper aircon re-gassing specialist should test the system first and then ONLY re-fill it if it has no leaks. Best go to one of those and get it checked-out. If it DOESN'T have a leak, you can sometimes top them up yourself with cans available from the likes of Halfords or eBay, but you still wouldn't know if there was a leak (until it stopped working again a week later) and the cost of the cans isn't far off what a professional re-gas would cost anyway.

Agree with Avocet. On that aged car, most likely there will now be leaks from the seals and /or condenser/corroded thin pipes. Due to lack of regular usage and maintenance of the AC. You could be lucky with re-gassing, but most likely it's now a waste of money, and any initial success rapidly goes as the gas disappears again. Shame really, but ACs need proper usage as well as re-gassing regularly. It's too costly to fix those leaks.

Akvile, did the air con recharge work? I have the exact same issue and I'm hoping it just needs a recharge.

HI I have 2008 Diesel Grande and have the exact same issue, recently recharge the gas and pressure also upto the mark. In sri Lanka we do not have much fiat specialists and a regular AC specialist said he couldn't find any faults with AC system. please help.
