All,

My 1.3 diesel Grande Punto needs a replacement clutch and gearbox. After getting some quotes decided to get a new car and get rid of the Fiat...

I have now bought a new car...

I'm looking to dispose of my grande punto and wondering where I can get the best price? it's in OK condition bar the clutch and gearbox issue....

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Oh man just fix it. 1.3 is a very good engine.

What's the problem with the gearbox?

I know cmosfxx it's a great engine, really punchy and good mpg too. Will be sad to see it go.

However - we were planning on changing car in March anyway as we've had the Fiat for 4 years so changing the car a month early seemed the logical thing to do!

I've been offered £550 by a scrap company for it (they collect etc) and have had repair quotes ranging from £650-£1200 depending on best/worst scenario. Unfortunately the car's not in best shape (although it might look OK if given a deep clean) and I don't think I'd get more than about £1500 if sold privately so the scrap offer is very attractive... despite it being saddening...

all thoughts welcome...!

£550? hell why not give it for free then to someone? Scrap yards will sell your engine for £1000 the next day. I don't know your economics but it sounds so wrong.

What's the mileage ?

You may as well list on eBay spares or repairs you will get more than that and at least it will probabley go to someone who will fix it and give her many more years and miles

1.3 diesel is what I have, smashing engine. If your looking to dispose it, you wouldn't mind ripping your bonnent handle off and sending it my way would ya ?

Ha if I had the time I'd break it up for spares and I'm sure I'd get lots of money but don't have the time...

I've asked the garage to do me a part exchange price. Any thoughts on what I should get on ebay for it?

If I had the time, I'd take the airplane, and buy it from you right now hahah
These diesels are veeery expensive here in Greece

It's all about mileage. If this engine has less than 60k miles, don't even think about giving it away. It has a looot more to give (y)

It's done 73000 miles so a fair few.any thoughts on what it would sell for on eBay?

hmmmm....I take it the car doesn't drive and if you were to sell it it would need to be on a lowloader/transported..

Ha - are you tempted?

The car is drivable atm, my other half is using it around town on a daily basis. You just have to keep clutch usage to a minimum and can't use 4th gear! Still waiting on my part-ex offer!

You can't say for sure the gearbox is at fault, it may simply be the clutch. A new clutch at £300-400 and it may well be a good car again. A GP on a garage forecourt still demands £2500-3000 especially with the sort of mileage yours has so you could get £600-700 on eBay to the right person willing to put some work in
