Hi just wondered if you can help as my gearbox is stuck in 2nd the gear stick feels like it isn't attached to it. Would this be the selector

Maybe cables?
Get someone to change gears and check if selector is moving.

Yes this sounds like a cable problem. At best one of the cable ends just popped off the ball-end, you can slip it back on and try securing it with something. At worst one o the cables is broken... which would mean a new cable set.

The cable was broken unfortunately. Means I haven't got a car for a couple of days . Just wondered would around £200 for the repairs are about right

I think the cables are around 200, then add the labor.... so be ready with 300
