Ok guys, how do you remove the switch that operates the Third / high level brake light and which is situated in front of the brake pedal arm ?

I can see it, I can move the little Red sleeve thingy forward, but for the life of me I cannot press the Two little locking tabs that are situated either side of the switch, in far enough to be able to withdraw it from its bracket, am I missing something ?

Would it be easier to remove the complete bracket and then remove the switch from the bracket once its off the car and if so, which is the best method of removing the said bracket ?

Thank you in advance, The Soulman.

The high level brake light doesn't work.
There is no voltage at the brake light when the brake pedal is pressed.
All of the LED's are good.
So I suspect the switch is faulty.

Is there anyone on here that can answer my question ?

In reply to your post, why on earth would anyone want to disconnect a (working) high level brake light.

are the other brake lights working?

if so

my first place to check would be the rubber tube/ duct between the car body and the boot hatch check the cables in there for damage...

have you worked out which core of the brake light is broken?

check between the live side of the plug at the light and the chassis in the boot to rule out broken earth or live supply

from memory the high level stop light is controlled by the Body computer

Just for clarity, car is a Grande Punto, 1.2 8V petrol, 06 registered.

Everything I've read (Including wiring diagrams) indicates the high level brake light is controlled by the prake pedal switch and the Left / Right brake lights are controlled by the body computer.

how does the car know to turn on the brake lights via the body computer im sure it uses the same switch for all... cant find my copy of elearn at the moment its somewhere on my desk

It is very unlikely that there would be more than one switch. Cost of duplication is unnecessary.

One switch sends the signal, may apply lights directly, or via body computer, but problem is most likely at feed or earth near tailgate. Messing with switch at pedal will not find a cure, just extinguish all the brake lights, then you'll get hit from behind. Constant flexing as tailgate opened and shut can cause issues with broken wires or connections.
