Hi Guys
I'm a newbie on the site. I have a Grande Punto 2007 (1.2 Active). I've been on holiday for a couple of days. About a week after leaving for holiday, the neighbour phones to inform me that the Punto's lights are switched on. I'm very sure no one has tampered with the car. Quite a strange occurrence seeing that the vehicle has been left unattended for a couple of days. Anyone have any theories on this?

Secondly, obviously the battery has run flat. Do I run the risk of frying the computer if I jump start the battery?

Thanks so much for your help in advance.

Hey, welcome to the site!

No jumping the battery shouldn't cause any risk of frying the ECU (but you can disconnect it completely prior to jumping) but ask your neighbour was there a lot of rain while you were away. It's possible you got a build up of water at the head of the engine bay which maybe have caused a short. Have a look at a similar guide below on which areas to check.

Not strictly true! All depends upon what its being jumped from! At the risk of OP causing expensive damage I'd never advise this.

OP you'll probably be ok jummping the car, but its always advised against, I always use surge protected jump leads myself.

The battery however probably won't jump start as it'll be completly dead rather than just low, so you'll need to remove it and give it a decent deep charge.

The fault could be a number of things, but I'd start with the simple, being a faulty relay.

Hope this helps.

remove the battery from the car and charge it to be safe.....

then whilst the battery is off remove the engine bay fuse box lid and check its fully dry..

once you know the top section is dry unclip it from its rubber mounts turn it upside down and remove and check the 3 multi plugs are dry and water free

is the arch liner flap (used to change the bulbs broken or open in the left hand side arch near the fuse box secure?
