Hi there,

I'm sure this question has been asked before and answered, but I've searched hi and low and not been able to find it or a guide for it....

Can you upgrade the rectangular style key fob

(looks like this http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages...,557999217,557999244&formats=0,0,0,0&format=0)

To the rounded style key fob?

(looks like this http://www.fiat-accessories.com/Fiat-500-Key-Cover-Swarovski-Snake)

My brain is telling me it must be possible... Just take the transcoder out and blade off and swap it all over. But is it that simple? Will it all fit together or has Fiat changed the shape of the circuit board?

I'm picking up my GPS in just over a week and the remote is the only part of it that lets it down, I'd love to upgrade it if its possible, so please, if you have the answer, let me know.

Thanks,

Nero

Just compared my key to my mums abarth 500 and my girlfriends 500 key and the metal base of the blade looks a good few mm wider so dont think it'd fit in a new casing.

The only other option would be to get a newer style key and get it reprogrammed to the car but i belive fiat charge £££££ for this.

Its doable, but really expensive.

FIAT say they'll do it for £120 + VAT, well thats when I got my GP.

You can buy the fob and get a key cut, but you'll need to trasfer the chip for CODE, which can be difficult

I asked fiat today mate and I was quoted the same. Its a lot of money for what should be a very simple job.

Some really good advice here, but I don't think I'm closer to an answer... But then again I think I asked the wrong question.

What I'm going to do now is get a used key from a scrappy, dissect it and see if my remote PCB would fit inside, if it does, get a new keyblade cut and Bobs your mothers brother!

Resurrecting a old post. But still. Did you manage to do it? XD

If you want the later type key you have two realistic options. 1 is a new key either from Fiat or an auto locksmith (I do new ones for £150 but need acces to the car)
Or the second option is to get a second hand later type key. Make sure you get the correct one. Needs to be one with a Delphi circuit board not a Marelli one or the remote won't operate correctly.
You need to be able to surface mount solder for this. When you open up the remote you will see on the circuit board there is an nxp chip in the board marked pcf7946 with a clear blue gel on it. This is the chip that holds all the remote and immobiliser data. Swap the chip from the old pcb to the new one. Then obviously you need to get the key blade cut to match your original.
If your not confident in your soldering skills then don't try it. If you make a mess of it then you won't be able to start your car.
