Hi, as above really! Got a 1.4 16v StarJet, 08 plate, done 68k. In the last couple of weeks it's started to judder a lot at around 1000-2000 revs. Runs fairly clean at ide, then really starts to rock about 1000 revs, all the way up to about 2000, then less to about 2600 when it stops. Very unsettling when driving as it physically shakes the car. You can see if revving with bonnet up that the engine itself is moving around.

So far have changed fluids (to make sure that oil wasn't being lost), air filter and spark plugs. Coil packs next?

With the previous incarnation of the Punto, a 1.2, this happened and then the ECU went bang and had to be reprogrammed, which solved the problem. Seems similar in that in my old Punt, with the unhappy ECU, the engine block was shaking around like an original New Romantic at a Spandeau Ballet reunion gig. Has anyone else had ECU issues this on the GP 1.4 16v, or any incarnation of the GP engines?

Also got a loverly tickling noise on the left hand side of the engine bay. Not sure if the two things are related, since with Fiats it never rains but it pours... Thinking blocked oil feeder, so the oil is not getting around the engine, unhappy alternator, or worn cambelt?

Any thoughts appreciated before I signal defeat and book it in to the local extortion merchant!

Re: Engine juddering and ticking... EGR valve?

Having finally established that the 1.4 16v StarJet DOES have an EGR valve, can anyone tell me where it is and if they have had a go at giving it a clean? I have read the excellent guide to cleaning the valve on the 1.9M-Jet, but my engine bay looks very different to that! Any 16v StarJet owners able to give me a steer?

Excellent diagram of the engine here - http://www.italiaspeed.com/2006/cars/other/technology/04/starjet/101.html

If I can get any advice and have a pop at cleaning it, I'll take some snaps to help others experiencing engine management issues - may not solve it, but it sure is fun trying...

Cheers, Tim

I dont think it has an ERG valve as that mainly Diesels to reduce emissions

I would expect a bad MAF sensor or something along those lines. Do a search for an Elliotross or something like that he has had similar issues and all was fine once he replaced some parts.

I know I have posted in that topic so maybe check my previous posts.

One of the leads may be breaking down so id replace them all! shouldnt be too expensive for a set of HT leads. If that doesnt cure it could be a cam sensor or something like that?

Thanks for the replies. I've contacted Shop4Parts to seee if they have a MAP sensor for the 1.4 16v StarJet - they don't list one, and it's not the same part as for the 8v.

The 1.4 16v StarJet is (unfortunately) a very different beast to the 1.4 8v - it's got PDA, VVT and EGR going on to increase fuel efficency and cut down emissions (http://www.italiaspeed.com/2006/cars/other/technology/04/starjet/2004.html). Great when it all works, not so much fun when it decides to throw a wobbly!

Will let you know what happens, if I ever get to the bottom of what makes my StarJet so temperamental.
