Hi, as above really! Got a 1.4 16v StarJet, 08 plate, done 68k. In the last couple of weeks it's started to judder a lot at around 1000-2000 revs. Runs fairly clean at ide, then really starts to rock about 1000 revs, all the way up to about 2000, then less to about 2600 when it stops. Very unsettling when driving as it physically shakes the car. You can see if revving with bonnet up that the engine itself is moving around.
So far have changed fluids (to make sure that oil wasn't being lost), air filter and spark plugs. Coil packs next?
With the previous incarnation of the Punto, a 1.2, this happened and then the ECU went bang and had to be reprogrammed, which solved the problem. Seems similar in that in my old Punt, with the unhappy ECU, the engine block was shaking around like an original New Romantic at a Spandeau Ballet reunion gig. Has anyone else had ECU issues this on the GP 1.4 16v, or any incarnation of the GP engines?
Also got a loverly tickling noise on the left hand side of the engine bay. Not sure if the two things are related, since with Fiats it never rains but it pours... Thinking blocked oil feeder, so the oil is not getting around the engine, unhappy alternator, or worn cambelt?
Any thoughts appreciated before I signal defeat and book it in to the local extortion merchant!
