Hi all, I have a few questions for you all.
The misses wants a new car and we have found a good price grand punto.

I have a fiat stilo jtd so I know it's a good engine. BUT is there any go in this 75bhp grand punto mjet??????

She has a 07 Nissan micra 1.2 petrol At the moment but wants to change as it is rubbish on the motorway. Honestly if you do over 60 the petrol goes down so fast.

So my question is, I know the punto does good mpg but at 75 does it sound like engine is reving really high? And would it be faster than her little micra?

Cheers for all your help and would like your honest opinion:slayer::slayer:

It's a decent engine. Some have said the 1.3 can have abit of turbo lag, which isn't a critisism i could level at the 1.9 JTD in Stilo. I think it's mostly the 90bhp 1.3 that has it but look out for that on a test-drive & see if it causes a problem.

One thing the (rarer) 90bhp 1.3 has is a 6 speed gearbox on the earliest examples of the Grande Punto (it then changed to 5 speed). I'd imagine this will keep it more hushed on the Motorway than the 75bhp version, which all have 5 speed boxes. Either way i can't imagine it feeling more strained than the Micra (i've driven a few of them too & it does boom abit at speed).

My main worries with the Grande Punto lie away from the engine. It seems like the bigger 1.9 Multijets are abit more fragile than the smaller diesels but still look out for steering column problems (does it cut out on full lock, for example), suspension knocks & creaks, doors that won't open from inside or outside, loose windscreen air vent, faulty heater/fan switches & noisy heater fan amongst other things.

I'm a big Fiat fan, but the Grande isn't Fiat's best built model by a long-shot & for some reason (presumably terrible quality control in the factory) some are perfect for years and others are complete dogs. If it was my money i'd be inclined to look at a Punto Evo (completely new dashboard & seemingly much better reliability) or a Panda, both which have the 75bhp 1.3 MultiJet.

I know the feeling.

Could scream home at 80 in my old Clio derv and still get 500 miles to a tank.

I'm lucky to get 400+ doing 65mph in this 'un.

The little mjet would be a great choice, as long as she doesn't mind rattles lol.

The other half has got my old 1.3 90BHP GP, so thats all I can comment on really.

Had it for 6 years, bought it as an ex demo with 6k on the clock. Had very very little done to it in that time, been a true work horse! Currently got 65k on the clock.

Apart from the slight turbo lag (not sure if the 75BHP has this issue) it really is a great car.

Cheers fr all your help. Well either way it must be better than a 07 micra 1.2, would you all agree. Plus I'm going to get it re maped for her as I done it on my stilo and made a hell of a difference
Has anyone remaped this engine before?
