I have always felt my t-jet is too low geared at about 22mph/1000rpm in 5th. It is noisy and thirsty on the motorway as a result. I was wondering what other puntos are like? Particularly starjets and diesels.

The 1.9 mjet is around 2k rpm at 70 so 35 mph ish per 1k rpm on the diesel 6 speed.

I've also wondered about the 6th in the Abarth too, but I think its about the same 3K at around 70mph, and just making the other ratios shorter and I find myself changing gear more than I probably should need to already...

If you go here you can see the specs for the Evo Abarth: http://www.automobile-catalog.com/make/abarth/punto_4gen_abarth/punto_evo_abarth/2011.html then click the "Continue here for detailed specs" button it'll take you to a page with some ratios on, which says that its 23.6mph/1000rpm, though that then does say the standard tyres are 215/45/R17's.

So the abarth with six gears isn't much better; it must have really close ratios the t-jet's are close enough. I think the t-jet could handle something like 27mph/1000rpm. That would be just under 3000rpm at 80.

As for diesels, 2000rpm at 70 sounds quite normal. Most 2.0 diesel saloons are geared at 33mph/1000.
Are the 1.3s 5 speed? What ratio?

The speed per 1000rpm in fith gear for the 1.3 multijet is 26.1mph on a final drive ratio of 3.56 according to the website GavinA posted. The same website also states that the figures for the 1.9 and 1.6 MJ is 32.2/1000rpm in sixth on a final drive ratio of 3.65.

There is a solution to this problem if you have a 5 speed T-Jet. I recently put one of these engines and boxes in my Uno and found the original ratios very low, since I have smaller tyres than you guys! The solution is to find a turbo diesel box from perhaps a Mk2 Punto, old Bravo, Marea, GP Diesel, etc. and use your T-Jet bellhousings on the diesel box. This does mean completely dis-assembling and re-assembling unfortunately, but you will have all the legs you want.
