17" alloys without tyres can range up to 25kg, and maybe more! that's near double the weight of standard steelies!


It's not just the weight, it's also the position of the weight (moment of inertia). Most of the weight of the wheel will be on the outer rim (8.5" from the centre on 17s and 7.5" from the centre on 15s).

Imagine you're swinging a rock attached to a piece of string. If you make the string longer by letting an inch out but still want to do the same number of rotations per second, it's gonna be harder work.

This means there's more torque required to turn the wheel, thus more torque transmitted through your gearbox and the greater stress it goes under.

Ive orderd my jom coilies last fri dnt kno how long thyre goio take tho coz in the jom website it says 2-3 days but if its special order 2-3 weeks wld u class coilovers as special order item ?
 
Also another question, am thinking of de badging the fiat badge on the boot if i debadge it is there a hole where the badge is ?

Very interested in these, are they the same as the ones pictured?

They just look a little bit cheap to me but your review seems otherwise which is good.

I just find it strange there this cheap, even cheaper than FK Coilovers. Weitec ones are £600! Do they look robust?
 
Hi need sum advice my jom coilies arrived today so took it to local garage left it there for couple hours an went bk an the guy said to me it need ?s to settle an to go bk fri an get it lowrred/adjusted thing is tho it doesnt feel that low?
 
No i think its coz he didmt wind them down coz it needs settle going tomoz to get the height ajusted

The springs will settle down, and i would wind them down over time not all at once. The only reason to go back is to have the tracking done but i would expect them to have done that already and you just go back to have it re-checked.

And please use a dictionary next time or atleast spell checker.
 
Also how long does it take for the coilovers to settle completley, cos at the moment the fronts sitting lower than the back was just wondering if the back will drop so its level with the front ? ...
 
Also another question if i took out my rear adjusters with my coilovers on will it break the spring, the reason why im asking is because thats the only way the back will go lower i went to local garage and he told me if i took my adjusters out it wld sit well low, but at the same time i dnt want the springs to break....any help plzzz :(
 
nope the springs wont break. They will just be 'loose' from the body of the car. However, they will still be in the path of the car so if you went over a harsh bump, they will still do the job.

I believe new range/rovers (may be wrong) have loose springs like above.

But, you must make sure it is in the path of where the spring should sit normally, otherwise it wont function :)
 
sounds like my old landrover, the rear springs were only held onto the axle and the chassis just rested on the top of the spring, so if you jack the chassis up the wheel would just stay on the floor and the spring would dislocate away from the chassis :D
 
So guys tell me how are the fk coilovers with stiffness?
I am planing to buy for my gp 1.3d and would like to know are they v ery stiff from stock ones ?
I also thinking if my Fiat was lowered with different springs or it just looks lower with 17" wheels :D

Aup guys, i have some jom coilovers and i have no adjuster on the back and the front struts wound all the way to the bottom with 17 inch wheels and i still have gaps? What am i doing wrong?
