Hi guys,
Just got my insurance renewal 4 my HGT and it's a bleedin' joke !!
I'm 32, 8 years no claims, living in 1 of the lowest crime areas in the UK (Norwich), only 1 SP30 in the last 5 years, doing less than 7000 miles a year and the b*****ds want £665 fully comp !!!!!
I've rung around and got it down 2 £447 with Esure, but I still think that's way 2 high. Does any1 else have the same problem with these criteria or am I being butt f***ed ??!!
I'd b interested 2 hear from any1 else who's the same age as me (difficult, i know, on this site !! LOL :) ) with similar NCD and if any1 has any recommendations about another insurance company, I'd like 2 know.

Cheers,

Rob.

HGT Insurance

Roberto, are you me younger bruvver?

I am just 33, 3 points (SP50) 6 years NCB but live in a CV (Coventry) post code, athough it is a village in Warwickshire. The car is parked "on the street" and I pay £630 with Admiral. After spreading it across the year it works out about £700ish. I was amazed that the HGT was MORE expensive to insure than my £25,000 Alfa 156 V6 when I swapped it in! Also, my Jag XJR-S 6.0 V12 is £30 on an identical quote!

The insurance for the HGT is mad, but I think it because a lot of younger people drive them as opposed to the Alfa or the Jag. I don't suppose there were many people under 30 who bought the V6 156 to push the premiums up, which is where the HGT gets let down. Also, with more and more Bravo's falling into 3rd and even 4th ownership, they are becoming cheap quality cars that are then McModded which unfortunately bangs the insurance up on all of them as the "newer" ones gets "borrowed" for bits and 'riding.

The above is not opinion, its insurance fact unfortunately. Ho well, off to polish me wellies and clean hamper basket...

Insurance

Try RAC (can do that on-line for a discount as well)
they were the cheapest by about 200 quid when I tried
them. (155 20v HGT)

The Bravo HGT is a COMPLETE rip off to insure for some
reason , I tend to agree with Nigel - its probably
cause they have been around now and the HGT's etc. are now in the price bracket for boy racers to be McModded (NICE TERM !) its pushing it up.

HGT's

Certain cars are expensive to insure for good reason. Sounds like the HGT has had a high claim rate in the past, which insurers have acted on and increased their premiums. Eg - company X insures 10 HGTs for an average of £500 each. Over the period of cover there are 2 claims for £3000, meaning a loss of £1,000. Of course, this is a basic exaple, but the theory is similar accross the whole insurance spectrum including motorcyles, the sector I work in.

Insurance intermediaries like RAC and AA will have a number of insurers (like AXA) on their panel. Chances are not many of them will be keen on the risk of a HGT, because of the high risk of a claim and will not even offer a quotation, which results in a smaller pool of quotations to produce a 'reasonable' price.

Nigels' Alfa was cheaper to insure simply because at the time is was deemed a safer risk. Value is only one of a vast number of deciding factors.

The trick is to phone as many companies as possible - Motor insurance is a hugely competitive market.

Sensible

Sensible words there from "Chris B".
One thing that pushs it up according to the bloke
at Norwich Union I spoke to is that FIAT parts , body
work etc. is so expensive (as we all now) compared
to the price of the car.

So something that would cost £500 quid on a ford
focus to fix will cost upto £2000 on a Bravo - meaning that the scenario "Chris B" said where they
were paying out more than getting it seems
most feasible.

I like Nigel have had alot more powerfull cars insured for alot less than a Bravo HGT.
I know they are pig hard to nick as the immobiliser is pretty good , so it can only be down to repair costs and average claim per driver thats pushing them up.

insurance

After reading all of the above i seem to have done quite well, i can only hope it continues.

1997 Bravo HGT
Student, 21
3years no claims
no job
with lowered suspension and alloys
£1000.
Bell Direct a part of Admiral

had a go

Decided to see if I could save some money so
just tried tesco's and Bell direct for insurance.

Here are my results
Tesco's - £150 more
Bell Direct - £300 more !!!

I think its all down to where you live etc. , as the
saying goes , phone them all as its dependent on your
circumstances.

Insurance

Hi guys,
Well, since that awful quote, I managed 2 find a much better deal thru' Esure.
£450 fully comp with £100 XS, protected NCD and much better levels of service and cover than Churchill or any1 else including 5 year warranty on all repairs and parts and instant courtesy car, regardless of fault. My Hi Fi is also covered up 2 £1000 with £50 XS and a lot more 2 boot. Check them out at www.esure.com. The only catch is that u must have at least 4 years NCD 4 them 2 insure u.

Thanx 4 all ur replies,

Rob.

Hi All,

I just bought my P REG 1.4SX Bravo.

I insured it with tesco online (to get the 5% Online discount)

*** IM 22,
*** No NCD
*** Unemployed.
*** Live in the midlands.
*** Valued the car at £3200
*** Park it on the drive.
*** Said I do 5000 miles

And its cost me £895 fully comp. Which i thought was really good.

TIP - Buy the latest copy "What CAR" magazine because they tell you which are the cheapest insurers online and they evaluate them all.

I think TESCO is about the 3 or 4 cheapest, cant remember.

Later Guys.

AXA---RAC

Use RAC instead of AXA.

RAC use AXA anyway and give you £10-20 off Road Tax.

They took £580 for my 1.6sx, I'm 23 1Year NCD, one SP30, 6-8000miles, I was expecting to pay more.

Insurance

Hello guys,

Your insurance sounds steep for your age. I'm 21, have a HGT 155 20V and my renewal price this year is £858 with Elephant.co.uk, fully comp.

I have 2 years no claims and my other half is insured on the car too, she's 19.

Last year i paid £1700, but i had a claim 3 years ago so this year it doesn't count and its halved the cost, with the same insurance company.
