Probably crank seal mine old van was like that, never got any worse so never bothered changing it. I did have to act surprised when it dripped in the inlaws driveway :-D

Hi Guys,
Any idea what could be causing this??

you can buy oil seal additive to replenish old oil seals just put it in with the engine oil really works well just put it in and leave it and if you change the engine oil just put a can full in each time it keeps ALL your engine oil seals up to scratch. you can buy it at any good motor factor shop.

Thanks guys, any recommended brand on the product?

if its the crank seal which from the look of it appears to be...it will be a waste of time adding any additive. start saving for a new clutch and do it all at once. or live with it till your clutch starts slipping. Out of interest how many miles has it done? I expect service history is relevant to crank seal wear on these engines..your front is probably on the way out also.

It is crank seal oil leak. It will be from putting in engine oil too thin for these old seals to cope with. 20/50 or 10/40 weight oils are ok, but people shove 5/40 or even lower viscosity oil in, and leaking crank seal is the inevitable result.

20/50 are you serious, this is the 2.2 puma engine from the transit not the 8140 based sofim engines. In the transit it runs the **** thin ford spec 5w30 fullly synthetic without issues. Leaking could be seal, worn bearings, blocked pcv valve, rusty / grooved seal surface, pressure distorted / cracked crank sealing surface from when the clutch was done etc.

hi guys following up on this subject i have fiat ducato 1996 with the 2.5tdi* 8140-47 engine and i have a slight leak coming from the crank case pulley which i treat with oil seal additive and have done for the past 20000 miles the leak is not enough to affect oil dip stick depth between oil changes but having read this article got me wondering if it could be related to PCV valve pressure blockage. so can anyone tell me the location of PCV valve on this engine. and would a PCV blockage be indicated by back pressure up from the dip stick housing when running for a while ? .(of which there is none) thank you.

its done 80k, funny that clutch has been slipping!!
