My 2012 Euro v 2.3ltr 130bhp manual Ducato based motorhome is coming up with a fault.
Started my engine one day and had the orange warning light and "check engine" come on.. I have a cheapie OBD reader and found:
P2454 Diesel Particle Filter pressure sensor A circuit low.
I cleared the fault but it returned straight away.

Some research on the net it seem's a common issue and one guy quoted a newer replacement part that Fiat had fitted to his. Mine is now out of warranty. Located a new sensor on ebay with the newer part number and when it came I was going to swop out myself, went under the van and discovered the electrical connection was different !! Put the connector back in place, cleared the fault code and after that it stayed off and I have done 120 miles..
BUT Today the fault code is back.. :(

If Fiat have changed the sensor then is there any point in fitting the original in case they are an issue ?
The van seems to run fine, if I keep clearing the code what will be the outcome.
Any input welcome.. I am no mechanic but have heard many stories of folk having part after part changed by Fiat and big bills to match..

If the new sensor does not fit then it is not a replacement part unless there is an adapter cable to go with it as with the later throttle body. It may be the sensor for the latest version van.

Try and get the original part number and try that.

I have found out that this newer part also needs additional kit like new pipes and electrical connector lead. My sister works for a spares company and has obtained a "replacement". I fitted this 2 weeks ago, fault cleared and i did a several hundred miles with no problems. Happy it was sorted I set off on a planned trip to Benidorm. Did over 1,000 and all was going really well. Then at the last stop the light and codes have returned, strangly withing minutes of filling up with cheap fuel !!! Not sure if there is any connection there... So now i'm 1300 mile from home, the van is parked in storage while i enjoy my holiday break.
Real dilema now about the drive back...

The problem with DPF's/EGR's and motorhomes is that they do not work well together. Most working vans are driven hard and these systems are less of a problem but when the van becomes a motorhome we tend to drive less vigorously resulting in blockages.

The DPF needs to regenerate itself from time to time and this needs a hotter exhaust to burn off the soot deposits so higher engine speed are required, usually above 2000 rev's. If the regen fails to happen then the result is a blocked, expensive DPF.

I don't know your style of driving but a lot of us tend to pootle about at low rev's watching the world fly by...The old adage of "drive it like you stole it" would probably see less DPF issues.

To clear my dpf from 85% down to 24% blocked
I took a thrash up M1 sat in 3rd keeping her up above 3000rpm for 10 miles, turned around and did same back

Also running some redex through to give injectors a freshen up whilst putting them to the test

3.0 euro 5 180hp with approx 200,000 heavy use miles covered at the time

if you can get to DPF and remove soak it in cheap pepsi cola for 48 hours then flush out this should remove all carbon if you cannot remove then blank of bottom end and fill with p/c for said 48hrs then flush. common problem in future drive harder keep revs high change down sooner and so on like the man said drive it like you stole it. jt

Well here is an update..
The light stayed on but vehicle seem to run ok. I travelled back through France and Spain, even over the Pyrennees and no issues.. Day three I started to loose power but only on steep hills. I was just aiming to get back to UK..
Last morning at Calais the van started but failed to tick over, reved ok but died when it went below 1,000 rpm.. New error code P0697 - Sensor ref voltage c circuit / open.
I held accelerator on and warmed engine that gave me tick over and I have driven van back from calais to Birmingham. Runs up to 70 mpg no problem but just dies a bit on hills.
So now. The original P2454 code has gone but I have this P0697 and engine does not idle until its warm.. :( Looks like a garage job now..
