Hi All,

New to this forum. I'm about to replace the driveshaft oil seal on our 2.8 ducato campervan. Having read conflicting information regarding the torque of the hub nut can someone confirm what is correct?

Also, I believe it is suggested to fill with 2.7 litre instead of manufacturers suggested 2l.

Thanks in advance.

Shaw

What year/generation of 2.8 Ducato is it?

On one of my previous vans ('89 Talbot) the drive shaft popped out it's clip in the diff, (but fortunately didn't come right out!)

The struggle to get it back in is another story but if you just want to replace the oil seal in the diffhousing, is it not possible to do it without undoing the hub nut?

The hub is bolted to the bottom of the strut and so must be removed to get it off the driveshaft so could you not leave it on the end of the driveshaft when pulling this out (after disconnecting brake hoses!)

On the Talbot the driveshaft was retained in place by a round section 'circlip' located in a groove in the driveshaft and diff and needed to be prised out, not sure if it is still the same system on the 2.8's.

Thanks for the help. I was under the impression I needed to undo the driveshaft at the hub to free it up enough to pull it out. Will be taking a more detailed look today.
The other problem is draining and refilling the gearbox oil as it has no level plugs

When my driveshaft popped it's clip the only thing that stopped it coming right out of the diff was the hub assembly holding it in place; hence thinking that if the hub was unbolted it would come out.

There are several posts on the forum re. refilling the 2.8 gearbox and the reversing light switch and breather are both suggested; but don't know which is easiest.

I am annoyed at Fiat for deleting the level plug; I found that my 2.5TD which had this did need topping up (and the Talbot even had a dipstick for the gearbox)

Like you I'm not sure whether my 2.8 has got 2 litres or 2.7 litres and whether I should add 0.7 litres just in case!
