Hi ,my husband is fitting another 2.8D engine to his Ducato, year 2000.
Does he need to fit the diesel pump off the original engine to the replacement 1.
Asking as I'm sure I did read on these forums that he would have to do this so double checking.
Wouldn't want him to do unnecessary work.

As you didn't get a reply on your other thread I thought I'd better have a try at this one:)

If your engine is iDTD (i.e. mechanical fuel pump) then any suitable fuel pump will do. The critical thing is to get the cambelt timing correct so if replacement engine is complete with all the bits on & pump looks ok, it would be easiest to put it in as a complete unit rather than try to swap pumps.

If it is a JTD it is outside my level of expertise (i.e. I've never owned one;)) but I *believe* the HP fuel rail pump is coded to the ECU, so either the ECU has to be reprogrammed to the replacement pump or the pumps changed over.

The mechanical pump should change over ok, but the fuel solenoid on the early models has to stay with the vehicle, as it talks to the ECU and KCU. The solenoids aren't that nice to change in place, but if your motor is out, should be easy.
