hi has any one tried to change front wheel bearings on a fiat ducato 2.0 jtd 53 plate if so how easy was it .

The steering knuckles have to be removed from the vehicle so the following procedure can be carried out.
1. Work at the bench and, using a universal extractor (1a) and an appropriate diameter tool (1b), remove the hub (1c) from the steering knuckle. - pic 4113
2. Rotate the steering knuckle and remove the bearing circlip. - pic 4114

1. Position the steering knuckle in a press, resting on a plate (1a) with an opening in the centre that allows the bearing (1b) to be removed. - pic 4116

2. Position the special tool on the bearing (1b).
3. Extract the bearing (1b) from the steering knuckle on the press.
- Check that the bearing is not damaged

1. Position the steering knuckle (1a) on the press, resting on a plate (1b).
2. Position the bearing (2a) on the steering knuckle.
3. Position the special tool on the bearing (2a).
4. Fit the bearing (2a) in the housing using the press. - pic 4118

Refit the circlip in the housing.
1. Position the hub (1a) on the press, resting on a plate (1b). Position the steering knuckle with the bearing (1c) on the hub (1a) and keep it in position.
2. Position the special tool on the steering knuckle
3. Fit the steering knuckle with the bearing on the hub using the press. - pic 4121
Cheers

Hi I bought a DVD from Ebay all the techno stuff and how to do it, great product. Started to change front bearings today, got as far as trying to undo caliper bolts talk about tight need 14mm hex driver just to get the bolts undone then need new bolts ones as they are self locking @ 125 newtons Told by Fiat dealer let them know if I removed old bearings before buying new ones as sometimes they cannot be removed and new hubs are needed and then the new hubs need different bearings talk about minefield, good luck Kev

Ducato 2005 2.8 JTD.

Hi Thought I would add my experience. Removed steering knuckle/beering carrier. Hub would not even budge under a 50 ton press. Cut through hub flange with hack saw and grindette to reveal portion of C clip. Bent it up bit by bit whilst heating it and finaly removed it.

Pushed the hub and bearing out complete. New bearing from Europarts and found a hub on ebay from [ contact me if you need the supplier] it was made by bilstein in germany very pleased and £60 instead of £160 quoted by Fiat. Had it all pressed back together on large press still very tight.

On assembly found a bolt hole for the lower ball joint slightly deformed must have caught it on the press so had to wait for taps to arrive to sort it. 2 weeks with all the messing about but cheaper than the guy on the forum who was quoted for the whole unit to be replaced if need be by fiat. Apparentley this job can be a right b!!

All new bits from Fiat, Steering knucle/bearing/hub flange came to £650!
I know they would not have messed with it as I did. Buy the way keep an eye on the drive shaft, mine just slipped clear of the oil seal before I spotted it. Compulsory oil change but at least I know it has the extra oil in the gearbox and the best.

Cheers
