Hi folks, got a real dilema with the doblie, mot is up later next month, clutch is going, pedal getting heavier and now making a whirring when clutch pressed, done 110k now, was quoted ridiculous 800 quid for clutch doing, body in good nick bar few dents, no rot. Question is do we sell as is or try and get clutch done more reasonably, or just get another car anyway possibly another one, what would you do?, any ideas gratefully received. Neil

whether you want to replace the dmf is your choice. i hope it's not a 'friend' that quoted the £800 'estimate'.

Clutch kit £150
Slave cylinder £50
Dmf £200
Parts would be cheaper than this, so does 4 hours labour at a good garage sound right?

Hang on for the MOT, then decide.

hi Creon, thanks for your reply I'm new in Devon but price is ridiculously high I know, only had one quote he said £570 without dmf 870 with, another guy I asked said over eight hrs labour sounds like far too much labour to me, both garages here in Torquay

you know you can get an MOT test a month before it's due..,
I'd do that..then you'll know what the car is going to owe you in the next few months,

my old Marea JTD had a clutch done years ago by a friend over a weekend..said it was a PIA and wouldn't want to do another..,

after getting your MOT news - then ring a FIAT specialist .. like burrowsdeano for a 2nd opinion on labour time,

Well doblie passed mot as usual, just needed wiper blades so cant grumble, no advisories again, on the downside release bearing is making more and more noise, although clutch doesn't slip at all, drives lovely still. Might be for sale on here in next few months as we may get a newer car with a long warranty poss Kia or Hyundai. Thanks to you guys for your helpful comments. ??
