Hello,

Have read through your forum and am hoping someone can help me.

I have a 51 plate doblo 1.9 SX diesel. its done 86k miles, cambelt replaced at 72k.

We had a few starting problems a few weeks ago but a glow plug change did the trick.

The last 3 long journeys I have been on , it has been fine going, but on the way home all 3 times I get about 20 miles out and the engine cuts out and ewl comes on. I leave it 10 mins and it starts fine, but having this happen twice on moterways I realy need to sort it.

Any help will be greatly appreceated.

Thank you.

Hi Mel,
Welcome to the Fiat Forum!

Is the EWL on after it starts?
After it cuts out and you try to restart, can you turn the engine over? do you hear the fuel pump? are there any other lights turning on on the dash?

Also you might want to get a diagnoses tool plunged in the car and see if you have any errors or warnings in the ECU.

Cheers,
Dan

i had the exact same hassle but with a renault scenic and it can be very serious, in mine it was a big end bearing failing and if it goes its a new engine , mine went in feb and is still of the road thats when i got my stilo estate, but if i were you i would be having it put into a garage and getting them to check it out, it will cost a few ££££ to get the diagnosis but its best being dafe than sorry.

Hi Dan
when you first try to restart it, it won't restart - all the dash lights come on but if you leave it 10mins it starts fine. It feels as if it is running a litttle bit rough. Not sure what the fuel pump sounds like.

Thank you for your help.

Just a quick update, have had car hooked up to a computer and nothing was recorded on the EMS.......

Still, after it cuts out, can you still crank the engine (i.e. will it turn over) and it just not fire?

Symptoms sound like the diesel pump. I have had mine repaired plus the ECU. Not cheap, but it is running like a swiss watch now.
Take it to a diesel specialist not a main dealer.
Where are you.

Quic update, Thanks for replies....

Fuel filter was clogged up so replaced, Also cleaned out the ERG valve as it was ctusted up and not able to move, soo hoping this will sort it out... Will keep you posted......

Historically when a diesel used to stop dead like this it was usually the stop button solenoid on the pump. When running a voltage keeps the stop valve open via an electric solenoid on the pump, cut the voltage and it cuts the fuel. Not looked at a diesel pump lately in detail but its perfectly possible they still have a similar system, so it may be this if fitted.

Update:08/06

Been driving all week lovely and much smoother....Got 12.6 miles down the A1-A14 and pow gone again...
Drove the back way home, luckily, as it took 3 hours!!!

Getting another diagnostic thingy done tomorrow but the first one didnt record a problem although it is only driving 2 mins before cutting out now, so hopefully it will this time.

Im sure the solenoid was mentioned by my mechanics as being the next bit being replaced if they cant get a diagnostic reading again.

Thank you everyone for your help

Almost certainly the diesel pump. Have a look at the other threads on this forum. I had exactly the same problem with my first Doblo, a 53 plate 1.9D. I ended up putting mine in an auction to get rid of it (obviously disclosing that the EMWL kept coming on).

Hello,

Just to update (for the final time I hope) To let you know we changed the Crank sensor and have since done aprox 300 miles with no problems.

Thank you for all your help
