Hi
I have just been given my Dad's '53 DobloELX JTD and am having a couple of problems with it - I am sure these questions have already been answered on the forum but I can't find exactly what I am looking for...

First prob is that rear lights are not working - the bulbs and fuse have been checked (not by me, I am useless with cars) and they seem to be working. I hear I may need a new switch (near brake pedal??). How do I get one of these and should I fit it myself? Have got a fiat garage 2 mins from work and really need to get it fixed before I drive home...am also pretty skint..
Second prob is that driver side windscreen wiper is not working. From my v limited knowledge it looks looks like the bolt ?!?! linking the wiper to the mechanism below it has disintegrated - again, is this cheap to get fixed?

Just need a bit of advice
Thanks - am quite embarrassed at knowing so little!!

Hello,

Well, the brake lights not working I can't help with, it might be a small fixable thing. I'd run it past the dealer and see what they think. As for the wiper, this is a chronic Doblo problem. There is a thread on here about fixes carried out by people who know what they are doing and have tools etc.. For the rest of us Fiat will just replace the mechanism, and this cost me over £200, but they replaced the motor as well, which wasn't necessary. Thay said it all came as a unit :( I think the problem is a weak plastic joint in the linkage.

When mine went the driver's wiper worked, which was a bonus as i realised the nearside one isn't vital to driving.

Sorry to be a downer, but when these glitches are sorted you'll have a great little box which is in fact fun to drive. Oh, and do drive it hard now and again, it likes it (once its warm). And make sure you get the cambelt changed when it's due.

Good luck anyway.

Thanks for the advise - not what I wanted to hear but at least I am informed now!! Will have a look for the home fix for wipers as have a pretty useful friend who may be able to to it. Will also go to garage today and see what they say - at least I won't faint when I hear the price!!
