Hi all!

My first post since I subscribed in 2010, haha. I did introduce myself at the time, but maybe I'll have another go at it later on :)

I'm the proud owner of a Fiat Croma 1.9 MultiJet 16v Business Connect, MY2005 with 224.000km on the clock. One of the few that drive around here in the Netherlands, I might add... :)

It's a great car, but lately I've been experiencing a light shake/judder/vibration when stationary. It started out after I had to brake for a traffic light. When you open up the engine lid, you see the engine vibrating a little bit more, than it should actually do. The engine itself runs perfectly though, no problems with power whatsoever when driving it. Also, I don't see any warning lights or faults displayed on the screen, so that might exclude faulty injectors? If I rev the car slightly to 800-900 rpm, the juddering is gone...

Anyone experienced something like this on their Croma? My biggest fear would be a faulty dual-mass flywheel. The reason I bought this Croma in the first place, was to replace a Marea Weekend 2.4 JTD with clutch/flywheel issues and some other things that would make it quite expensive to fix. I don't hear any weird sounds though when starting or stopping the engin, so that should be okay in my opinion...

I'm heading for Liverpool at the end of the week for work, so I need to make sure that the car is okay enough.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Well hello there:-
The way you describe the start of this gives me the clue that it is more likely to be an engine mounting than the DMF. I think there is one at the top of the engine???.

Just one question - does the engine rock side to side or back to front? Its a good test to find a bad mounting.
As a further example my son has an Alpha 159 with the same engine . When I went to check it before he bought it ( one of the few things that youngsters these days find us any good for!!!) I could see it was rocking backwards/ forwards at tickover. There was a worn top engine mount which was easily seen as the problem and was sorted before he took delivery of the car . I will check on E-Learn and tell you exactly where to look on the Croma.

Hi Tarquin, thank you for your reply :)

I have to check it out to be sure, but I believe it was rocking from back to front when I looked in the engine bay.
Also, I did a little test yesterday, when I was sitting in the car. With the engine running, I rocked the car and the vibrations actually did diminish for a few seconds. How many engine mounts are there actually on the 1.9 16v? Is it the same for the Croma as it is for the Alfa?

Hello again - just had a look on E-Learn and the top engine mount on the timing belt side of the engine is almost identical to the one on the Alpha. There are 3 more, one on the gearbox end similar to the one at the other end , and others at the front and back of the engine.
Remember my first reaction when anything arises with the Croma--- Check the simple things first-- its anti human nature I know but its well worth it in most cases.
