I need to change the blower motor on my 53 plate sei, was wondering how difficult it was and how I would go about getting to the heater blower to remove it I know you need to access it through the dash to remove the motor been quoted 4 hours labour at a local garage but would like to attempt this myself to keep costs down, is it a bitch of a job to do? any help/tips would be much appriciated

4 hours for a heater blower motor? they must be having a right giggle, whats up with it first of all?

take the larger section of the sound proofing out of the engine bay at the back ( held in by about 6 Philip screws) and the blower motor and resistor pack will be there in front of you

Been a while since i worked on a sei but you should with abit of fettling be able to remove the motor itself from there without taking the whole heating unit out and the rest of it

What Ash said. You can get to the blower by removing the firewall, you'll see the blower on the right hand side as you're looking at it, next to the wiper motor. I had my firewall off my car on Monday and it didn't look like the blower would be too difficult to unbolt and get out

The fuse keeps blowing, when I change it it works for a couple minutes and then blows again... I didn't think it was the blower motor as it works briefly when you change the fuse but was told by the mechanic that when they are old and on their way out the motors draw more power to run which would cause the fuse to blow. I removed the carpet stuff and had a look last weekend and couldn't see where the fixing bolts were to remove the motor

We had a seized motor on an ldv van that kept blowing fuses but that was sizied could be more likely to be the resistor but I'm only an apprentice mechanic so I'm still learning so I could be wrong :)

Motor can get a bit stiff, it still works but is just stiff.

I rebuilt my motor, took it apart, cleaned and greased the bushes top and bottom. And changed the brushes, for ones out of a makita grinder.

When you take off the carpet stuff, try turning the motor by hand. Is it stiff?

Does it blow the fuse when it is on max, because max setting bypasses the resistor altogether.
